Connie Sumner (Diane Lane) travels to New York City from the suburban home she shares with her husband Edward (Richard Gere) and young son Charlie (Erik Per Sullivan). It is a very windy day and, caught by a particularly savage gust, Connie falls and bumps into bookseller Paul Martel (Olivier Martinez) in the process. She scrapes her knees, and Paul invites her into his apartment. She stays only briefly, leaving after attending to her knees. She passes the accident off as trivial to Edward. But, she is drawn to the younger man and soon returns to his apartment with eventually disastrous results.UNFAITHFUL is based on Claude Chabrol's classic LA FEMME INFIDELE (1969). The drama has been shifted from Paris to New York City by scriptwriters Alvin Sargent and William Broyles Jr. Beautifully lit by director of photography Peter Biziou, UNFAITHFUL is staged with rare subtlety by director Adrian Lyne. Diane Lane gives an extraordinarily fine performance, viscerally conveying how torn Connie is between her attraction for Paul and her love for Edward and Charlie. There is excellent support from Gere, Martinez, Sullivan and Zeljko Ivanek. UNFAITHFUL is the rare case of a remake that measures up to, and maybe even surpasses, the original.

The video itself was excellent and well worth the price. The movie was sensual and exciting but also dangerous. It reminded me of a book by Nelson DeMille called The Gold Coast simply because of the main theme - infidelity.

Based on a French Novel I haven't read, but seems like a good adaptation. Diane Lane's character more engaging than Gere's (he is brilliant in "Arbitrage.") French actor who plays Lane's lover does a nice job with this role. Kind of predictable, but good chemistry between Lane and Gere. Sucks you in. Definately worth watching. No Oscar material, IMO. Brings to life in a pretty raw way the idiosyncrasies and complications of liaisons, as title implies. Gets 3 out of 5 stars. And that's generous. But 2 isn't adequate. Lane very beautifully shot. However, her nice safe existence is shattered one day by a chance encounter on the street with book dealer Paul Martel (Olivier Martinez). Paul is French, exotic and exciting, and the two are immediately attracted to each other. Diane is unable to resist temptation and quickly embarks on a passionate affair. As Diane and Paul get ever more extreme in their activities, Edward is starting to become suspicious. When he discovers that she is sometimes not where she says she is, he arranges for ... The movie also looks good - the production values are generally high and the direction is well above average. To add to the package, the music is particularly noteworthy and contributes significantly to the film. A+++ you wont be disappointed~~

Riveting and Addicting!
It was the first time I payed any attention to the French actor Olivier Martinez. I am in love! The movie was so entertaining. All the actors played such believable roles. You couldn't take sides, they were all right and wrong at the same time. I've watched it a few times, one of my favorite films so far!
