About this product

Product Information

A companion to the film Brokeback Mountain , featuring the story, the screenplay by Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana, and essays about the process and the collaboration. Annie Proulx has written some of the most original and brilliant short stories in contemporary literature, and for many readers and reviewers, Brokeback Mountain is her masterpiece. Brokeback Mountain was originally published in The New Yorker. It won the National Magazine Award, as well as an O. Henry Prize. Included in this volume is Annie Proulx's haunting story about the difficult, dangerous love affair between a ranch hand and a rodeo cowboy. Also included is the celebrated screenplay for the major motion picture Brokeback Mountain , written by Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana. All three writers have contributed essays on the process of adapting this critically acclaimed story for film.

As a big fan of the breathtaking and movie Brokeback Mountain this was a must-buy for me. I enjoyed "From Story to Screenplay" very much, especially Annie Proulx essay "To be movied" which was a very interesting read. I also find very giving to get my hands on the screenplay which makes for an easy comparison with the short story upon which BBM is based. I can hardly word how much I love BBM, both the movie which was beautifully directed by Ang Lee and also features two of the best on-screen performances in a long, long time (Jake Gyllenhaal and perhaps to higher extent: Heath Ledger). To me, BBM captures so many facets of life that everyone should find something to relate to in it. For me, From Story to Screenplay, was a great addition to my BBM obsession

  • "Brokeback Masterpiece"

The screenplay and story had so many complexities and was a lot of fun to read. I loved how Ennis and Jack's relationship over twenty years was well-written, as well as other small aspects that added up to a successful text. I decided to buy it because I had read the original short story and loved it. After that, I saw the film and liked that, too. So, since I liked them both and saw that I coulkd get them both in one volume, I bought this. Overall, I highly enjoyed it. Five stars.

  • Brokeback Mountain

The film starts a bit slow but picks up the pace later on. The sexual scene was a bit too explicit for me (I'm kind of old fashioned I guess), but if you look past the reality of life, you can sense the mutual admiration as well as the personal friendship that develops between these two cowboys. In my opinion the acting was quite good, the setting/background simply breathtaking and overall I would rate this film as good.
