    Much better than the TV mini series.

    In order to really understand and appreciate this book, the reader must pay attention to the McCullough family tree diagram that is placed at the beginning of the book. The reason is that the book covers the lives of the McCullough family over a period of years so several generations are involved in the narrative. The characters are well developed and almost seem life like as the story progresses. If anyone watched and liked the mini series of this book on television, the book is even better. Even if one watched the mine series and didn't care for it, I would say give the book a try - it's so much better than the television version which I did watch.
