The Making of Pride and Prejudice

This book is full of good information, about the makers of this movie, and about the actors in it. Very interesting from start to finish - I found the location search, and the many, many jobs created by a movie production, fascinating. I highly recommend it, especially for fans of the mini series, but also for people interested in regency, or empire, style of clothing and furnishings. It includes many interviews with the production crew and the actors, has great photos, and touches on so many aspects of film making and organizing one would not even think of. The only thing that was dissappointing was the end - I wish there was even more of it!

  • The producers interestingly detailed take on this book/movie masterpiece!

A must have item for genuine Pride and Prejudice fans who simply cannot get enough of this exquisite 1995 BBC production. No significant detail is left out and best of all it contains some revealing and heart-warming commentary from the stars and production crew that lets you in on their personal experiences while making this cinematic marvel, such as Jennifer Ehle admitting to cheating on her screen test to help her land the role of Elizabeth Bennett. The book is loaded with never before seen pictures, charts, maps, etc that give you some idea as to the monumental amount of work that was required to maintain the films early 19th century authenticity. As the screen writer Andrew Davies admits, Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book, and I have been in love with Elizabeth Bennett ...

  • Interesting look behind the scenes!

As a great fan of the BBC production of Pride and Prejudice, I couldn't pass on the opportunity to read the companion book about how the five part series was made. I was not disappointed with this indepth look from the germ of an idea to the finished film. The book contains interesting accounts from all concerned in the production as well as many pictures. It covers all aspects of the planning and filming, and includes a long interview with Colin Firth discussing his approach to the role of Fitzwilliam Darcy. All in all, a fun and interesting read for any fan of Pride and Prejudice.

  • indispensable supplement to the mini-series!

for all the passionate fans of bbc's 1995 "p&p", this is a must-have. it gives all the details: from the forming of the miniseries idea to the costumes to the music to the (most interesting) thoughts of the characters (including colin firth and jennifer ehle, which is more than can be said for the "bonus" features of the various dvd versions of this miniseries that have been put out in recent years). i own 2 of these books (my 11 year old wanted her very own copy) and still enjoy rereading it. if you like this version of "p&p" (i will watch no other version, since this is the definitive one and others will simply be a waste of time), then you *need* this book.

  • Outstanding book about filming Pride and Prejudice!

This is an exceptionally fine book about BBC's Prife and Prejudice film. It is very thorough, with wonderful photos from the film and rehearsals. Each major department (site searches, costumes, dance, auditions etc.) contributes a full article about that area of the film. Interviews with some of the cast, and a lovely full-length interview with Firth about his role as Darcy; terrific insights from him. It is a must, if you love Pride and Prejudice. The book makes you feels like you are part of the entire process. On a score of 1 - 5, it's a 10!
