About this product

Product Information

"'Will you walk into my parlor, ' said the Spider to the Fly..." is easily one of the most recognized and quoted first lines in all of English verse. But do you have any idea how the age-old tale of the Spider and the Fly ends? Join celebrated artist Tony DiTerlizzi as he -- drawing inspiration from one of his loves, the classic Hollywood horror movies of the 1920s and 1930s -- shines a cinematic spotlight on Mary Howitt's warning, written to her own children about those who use sweet words to hide their not-so-sweet intentions.

  • One you should own

Yhis is the MOST excellent version of this story/poem. I teach preschoolers but it would go for children much older as well. I originally checked it out of the library and when it was time to take it back the kids asked to get it renewed. We renewed it so many times they finally wouldn't let me have it again for a month. I have purchased several copies so the children have one they can handle and I have a "teacher's" copy. The large black grey and white drawings catch the eye and it is good for the chidren to hear and read a more formal english poetry cadence. It encouraged my children to explore both spiders and flies. I love it so much I have also bought copies for family members and one to keep on my own book shelf.

  • Love it!

I bought this book for myself as I am a fan of Mr. DiTerlizzi's illustrations; however, I found this book has a wonderful message that kids can understand about the dangers of strangers. I had never heard this famous poem of Ms. Howitt's before, but now I will never forget it. Easily one of my favorite books, as well as my seven year-old brother's favorite as well. The illustrations (making the book seem as though it were an old silent movie) are both creepy and cute, and are delightfully different from his illustrations for the Spiderwick series. I highly recommend this book to anyone, adult or child. The message of the book is great, and the illustrations and theme bring it all together beautifully! Worth every penny!

  • Why I bought this book

I love this book because .. it takes an old story and gives it a delicious new spin with its unique characters, and very awesome graphics. My children also love this book. It is perfect for both of them the story captures my 3 yr olds attention and my 11 yr old loves the artwork. This book is a must have for every parent, I would recommend it highly !!

  • Had to have this
