About this product

Product Information

When Strega Nona leaves him alone with her magic pasta pot, Big Anthony is determined to show the townspeople how it works in this classic Caldecott Honor book from Tomie dePaola. Strega Nona--"Grandma Witch"--is the source for potions, cures, magic, and comfort in her Calabrian town. Her magical everfull pasta pot is especially intriguing to hungry Big Anthony. He is supposed to look after her house and tend her garden but one day, when she goes over the mountain to visit Strega Amelia, Big Anthony recites the magic verse over the pasta pot, with disastrous results. In this retelling of an old tale, author-illustrator Tomie dePaola combines humor in the writing and warmth in the paintings as he builds the story to its hilarious climax.

It's a well loved children's book. The cover is a little torn, but it adds to its charm. The pages are free of any stains, or tears - so perfectly readable. Will come back for the rest.

  • Strega Nona

I love this book. It is a great story for all readers young and old alike. It is about a strega, gypsy or medicine woman, who has hired a boy to help her around her house while she is helping the people of the town below. Everyday she prepares her meals out of a magic spaghetti pot. When she says the magic words, spaghetti comes boiling out of the pot. The hired hand sees this and wants to try to do it too, but he does not see her doing the stop spell. So, the pot boils more and more spaghetti until it fills the house, the hill, and the town. I am buying this as a class set for the upcoming school year. I love this book and want to share it with all of my students.
