Synopsis
The classic, hilarious story of a misbehaving class, their sweet teacher, and the legendary substitute teacher who restores order in their chaotic classroom. Includes bonus downloadable audio. Miss Nelson's class always acts up--especially when their teacher is absent from school But after a week with their strict substitute, Viola Swamp, the kids can't wait for Miss Nelson to come back. Full of tongue-in-cheek humor and James Marshall's simply silly illustrations, this is the ultimate back-to-school book or teacher gift: Accept no substitute, The kids in Room 207 were misbehaving again. Spitballs stuck to the ceiling. Paper planes whizzing through the air. They were the worst-behaved class in the whole school. So begins this quirky classic, first published in 1977 and still relevant today as a lighthearted reminder to show our appreciation to those we value. The students don't proffer a shred of respect for their good-natured teacher Miss Nelson, but when the witchy substitute Miss Viola Swamp appears on the scene, they start to regret their own wicked ways. James Marshall's scritchy, cartoonish full-color ink and wash illustrations are hilarious. A back-to-school perennial, The classic, hilarious story of a misbehaving class, their sweet teacher, and the legendary substitute teacher who restores order in their chaotic classroom. Miss Nelson's class always acts up--especially when their teacher is absent from school! But after a week with their strict substitute, Viola Swamp, the kids can't wait for Miss Nelson to come back. Such a cute children's book!

I read this book as a child and just had to purchase now for my babies. Son loves it and I'm sure when my daughter is old enough she will love it too.

  • A fun family favorite!

I love this book on two different levels. First, I loved this book as a kid because of the story. It's about a nice, sweet teacher the students take advantage of. When they're especially bad, Miss Nelson takes a brief leave of absense, and Miss Viola Swamp takes her place. Miss Viola Swamp is everything Miss Nelson was not--she is downright mean! The kids start to realize what they lost when Miss Nelson left, and soon they are wishing to have her back. After the kids shape up, Miss Nelson reappears. Older primary kids LOVE this story, because they feel like they're in on a little secret when they read it. They realize that Viola Swamp is actually Miss Nelson--and they love the fact that the kids haven't figured it out. As a teacher, I love having this book in my classroom! I read ...

  • A favorite book from my childhood.

This was one of my favorites and now it’s one of my daughter’s favorites also! She loves the twist at the end.
