About this product

Product Information

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Small Great Things and the modern classics My Sister's Keeper , The Storyteller , and more, comes a "complex, compassionate, and smart" ( The Washington Post ) novel about a family torn apart by a murder accusation. When your son can't look you in the eye...does that mean he's guilty? Jacob Hunt is a teen with Asperger's syndrome. He's hopeless at reading social cues or expressing himself well to others, though he is brilliant in many ways. He has a special focus on one subject--forensic analysis. A police scanner in his room clues him in to crime scenes, and he's always showing up and telling the cops what to do. And he's usually right. But when Jacob's small hometown is rocked by a terrible murder, law enforcement comes to him. Jacob's behaviors are hallmark Asperger's, but they look a lot like guilt to the local police. Suddenly the Hunt family, who only want to fit in, are thrust directly in the spotlight. For Jacob's mother, it's a brutal reminder of the intolerance and misunderstanding that always threaten her family. For his brother, it's another indication why nothing is normal because of Jacob. And for the frightened small town, the soul-searing question looms: Did Jacob commit murder? House Rules is "a provocative story in which [Picoult] explores the pain of trying to comprehend the people we love--and reminds us that the truth often travels in disguise" ( People ).

  • Great book! Enlightening point of view!

I loved this book! It is only the second book by Picoult that I have read and I can't wait to read more! I have previously read "My Sister's Keeper" and wanted to read more by this author. Having the story told from the perspective of the entire family of someone on the autism spectrum was very enlightening. You get valuable honest points of view that leaves you with a better understanding of how it is to deal with autism. The story line it self is very good although I had figured out what happened long before the end. I don't think this story had the same shock value of "My Sister's Keeper" but it has the same type of theme of seeing things from another's point of view things that many people don't even consider. I look forward to reading more books by Picoult.

  • House rules

I have enjoyed Picoult's books. The plot is interesting, but also I have a better understanding of Asbergera syndrome. Actually I read this book awhile back and ordered this copy for my sister who has a day care.

  • A typical Picoult. A girthy novel for a long read.

I have been a Jodi Picoult fan for years and bought this next installment in paperback. It was an intriguing story, but it had me on edge throughout. I guess because I had figured things out early on and the whole trial aspect just frustrated me. The book also ended too abruptly. Picoult explained why she ended it this way, and it's not often she gives a lot of consideration for the reader. Worth it, though, if you're a fan of her craft.

  • A good read

Amazing book with a unique story line and relatable characters. I highly recommend it.
