About this product

Product Information

Introduction by Joyce Carol Oates - Nominated as one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read Initially published under the pseudonym Currer Bell in 1847, Charlotte Bront 's Jane Eyre erupted onto the English literary scene, immediately winning the devotion of many of the world's most renowned writers, including William Makepeace Thackeray, who declared it a work "of great genius." Widely regarded as a revolutionary novel, Bront 's masterpiece introduced the world to a radical new type of heroine, one whose defiant virtue and moral courage departed sharply from the more acquiescent and malleable female characters of the day. Passionate, dramatic, and surprisingly modern, Jane Eyre endures as one of the world's most beloved novels.

The book came in good condition. It had writing and a few dented pages but thats to be expected of a preowned book. Other than that its still decent enough to read.

  • Too much drama and peril but many people still love it. It was a masterpiece when written.

You couldn't change the book and it was written in a very popular form of storytelling for it's time. Too much trial and tribulation and dramatic dialog for my taste. It was a masterpiece in it's time and many people still love it.

  • A wonderful coming-of-age novel

I first read Jane Eyre when I was a sophomore in high school. I really enjoyed the book, especially since I am a romantic. Reading it again as a college sophomore, I think I gained even more from Bronte's story. Jane Eyre is so many things--a romance, a Gothic story, a discussion of issues such as freedom and the roles of women--but it is primarily about Jane herself, and her coming of age in a challenging world. Jane is, in her own words, plain, but although she may appear so on the outside, she is anything but as a character. Raised as an orphan by cruel relatives, Jane makes her way to Thornfield, where she becomes a governess and falls in love with the passionate and Byronic Rochester. Jane is a very unconventional heroine for her time, who chooses passion over prudence and ultimately ...

  • An enjoyable read. Good storyline.

I can see how someone would think this book would be boring, but it’s not! It has a really good storyline & is not boring at all! It’s a good, easy classic read, yet still challenges the mind enough. It’s enjoyable to sit and read Jane Eyre.
