This is a fun pedal. It cannot be used on all types of music but for those that need a certain something - this is it. I play a lot of classic rock style of music and this pedal fits in well. Of course it's a Boss so it's solid and will last forever. It allows you to shape your sound from a full on swirl to a barely there accent. It also sends to make a natural 80"s rock sound if you're into that. As I say a lot of fun. I wouldn't get this if I was playing heavy rock or metal but I use it sparingly on just about everything else.

It's difficult to say any thing concretely negative about the pedal...the clean sound has some variance to work around with and will allow you to create some useable sounds. However, once the distortion comes on you might as well be on the wave rider because it becomes an over riding space cruiser. Either way I like it.

This isn't the easiest mod to perform if you don't have any experience. But if you can pull it off, your BF-2 flanger will stay on your pedalboard! I have the MXR 117r and the Mistress Deluxe. Now this Boss BF-2 with the fromel mods sounds better than both of them. The flashing led before activating is a nice touch. The whole pedal just sounds thicker with more girth to the sound. The lows are more pronounced. I strongly suggest that you have some experience soldering before trying this mod. It requires good vision, or a magnifying glass and a steady hand. I picked up the pedal for $45 and with the $20 mod, it sounds like a very high end flanger you would get from a botique pedal manufacturer. Great deal! Now I'm gonna look into more fromel mods!

This pedal in its stock form is a fairly good flanger and should work well for most players. However it can sound a bit metallic and shrill at times depending on the settings and your guitar and amp setup. I bought this to add to my collection of MIJ Boss pedals. I also performed a Fromel mod to improve the tone and overall performance. Performing said mod may or may not diminish the resale value. I have not tried other pedals of this type so I cannot give an honest comparison. This is however a very affordable and overall good flanger.
I bought this and the mxr flanger 117. I recommend the boss flanger over the mxr. The boss not only has a comparable sound but the volume doesn't quiet down when engaged like the mxr. It's also smaller on the pedal board and runs on a standard 9 v vs two 9 vs for the mxr.

What can you say bad about a Boss pedal. They are not boutique (and don't cost like it), and most people know what they are buying when they choose Boss. Great all around selection of effects and the BF-2 is one of them.
