I've used these for years, paid up to £130 for them. They run continually, drawing only about 2w, then ramp up as the humidity increases.theyre virtually silent when they're running in the background, and not unduly loud when they're on full. I picked up three of them for between £33, and £38 each on eBay. My only criticism is that they're ugly, and stick out from the wall/ceiling by maybe 5". You can get a semi recessing kit for £10.34inc, also from eBay. If the appearance is important, it's worth getting the kit.

Many axial fans lose the ability to shift air properly even with a small resistance to air flow. This design overcomes the problem. The fan speeds up in response to humidity and has a manual pull cord to override normal operation. Unfortunately, the override has no timer.
