Good, fun car to drive but I have had a couple of issues with the durability of the car. The plastic steering broke the first time I used it and I replaced those parts with Aluminum parts that King Motors sells. After replacing the steering I took the car out and broke one of the wheel hubs in the rear of the car, which I also replaced with an aluminum hub sold by King Motor RC. The plastic parts in critical stress locations just don't make any sense to me. I'll admit that I play rough with my rc cars, but I think that the steering and wheel hubs are obvious places where stronger parts are necessary. Overall though, I like the car and think it will be durable once I break all the weak links...

Price is great, motor runs fantastic but it literally falls apart piece by piece. Ran 4 tanks of fuel and already had to order a upgraded differential. Stock exhaust fell apart after 2 tanks of gas. New exhaust really allows the engine to breathe and it's a great improvement over stock. Would I buy it again? Absolutely, it's a blast when it works but expect to spend about 2 hours replacing the differential if your handy. If you're not handy don't buy it because it will break after a few times out.

The Baja 5B SS Kit is a very great Car. The assembling was easy and took about almost 15-20 hours like written in the manual. The manual was perfect and all the steps were clear. It comes with a large number of parts to assemble but all is very logical. The only bad thing was, that my steering servo was broken and still got no answer from HPI Support. The price was also good and the delivery very fast. You only need an additional servo for the throttle and a servo battery. First I tried with the Spektrum DX3S Controller but forget about this. After 50 Meters the connection to the receiver was f**ked up. Now I use a Futaba 4PK with digital servos and everything worked well up to a distance of 400 meter. I definitely would recommend this car. It is a lot of fun and exciting to assemble. I still hope HPI would replace my steering servo.Read full review
The car out of the box started right up and idled with no problems. Very simple instructions for setup. Id say this thing does a realistic 25-30mph out of the box with a 29cc engine. But, it doesn't put you to sleep. This would be a prefect buy for someone getting into the hobby. Long run time, easy maintenance, and durable.

I started in RC Hobbys when I was 12 yrs old with Airplanes. and stayed in it for years. And I findly grew tired of all the repairs I was doing and decited to try Cars and my first car was a Traxxas Slash and I was hooked. I love the idea of how easy it is to replace broken parts and be ready back on the track in no time. I first saw the HPI 5B in a local Hobby Shop and I was WOWED it was big and it was love at first sight. HPI was the first to come out with a large buggy like this and it was a smash hit. The Buggy it self is a simple to understand layout was a inovation of this platform design. In all the buggy is a 2wd WITH A 26CC standard motor oil gas mix it weighs around 30lbs with full fuel load and had a top speed around 40mph with stock setup. This Buggy enjoys a healthy market of companys that build and design parts to add youre oun personal touch. With a few more parts this platform can be converted to a 5T (Truck) or HPI offers the truck version. All in All a great Buggy and a fun sport to get involved in. but the real drawback to the hobby is the cost. It can get costly so buyer beware!!Read full review
I wanted to get into a new hobby, and the 1/5 scale gas cars really grabbed my attention. I thought about going to electric, and even though they are faster I like the sound of a gas engine. The Rowan car started easily and has ran flawlessly. Very fast for a Baja 5B clone. 27.5 cc motor runs strong. I get about 45 minutes run time per tanks of fuel. I suggest you check all screws and fasteners periodically as they can work loose. A little blue thread lock works great. I have run this car on a regular basis, and even though I don't abuse it (running into hard objects) I definitely don't baby it. It is a lot of fun and will continue to provide me much entertainment. Highly recommended!
