      Music to my ears

      I received the Onkyo TX-NR656 one day earlier than expected. I eagerly set it up (speaker wires were already in place) and ran the accuEQ which measured speakers for placement, crossover, phase, delay, and loudness. I chose to adjust the loudness for the rears (personal preference), but left everything else that was automatically set by the receiver the same. Great sound. I have to raise the volume more than my previous receiver (TX-NR636), but I can still rattle the building. Dolby Atmos and DTS-X (the DTS-X after an easy download and update) make movies come alive. The unit will even attempt to creat three dimensional sound from older movies. I watched the movie "Contact" in the DTS Neural:X mode. When Jodie Foster rode the device through the worm hole it made the roller coaster ride ...

      Unit arrived early, even during the holidays. Packing was great - no damage. Setup was easy. Sound quality is good, comparable to my previous Marantz. Has enough power to drive bookshelf speakers in a medium sized room.

      Covers all the bases for a receiver. TV, Movies, music, internet, phono, zone 2

      Worth it for the DACs alone for what I Paid. Hook up a Ethernet connection and all your components and enjoy. speaker connections are confined so have some dexterity, or get banana plugs. Onkyo app for IPhone great for net connection as well as zone 1 & 2 control. Remote requires some patience. If you have superhuman high fidelity ears, or need more power to blast garbage out beyond your own listening area, you may need to upgrade. Or maybe just invest in some good speakers
