Amazing DVR
Ever since this purchase, TiVo has become somewhat of a household staple for us. The UI is snappy, responsive, and very simple. The exclusive TiVo features are great, we especially enjoy the SKIP function when watching pre recorded content. The tuner is also quite good getting the same if not better performance than any other tv in my home. Streaming video apps are also nice add ons, though you may still want to invest in a Roku as this is one of the few things TiVo does not do well. Overall, the TiVo Roamio is an amazing cable and antenna DVR with many features that are a must have for many. Note that there is a service fee, whether you pay it monthly, yearly, or just buy their all in service and pay one lump sum. TiVO great choice for cord cutting.
This is my third TiVO unit, the first was a 2nd generation, the second was a 3rd generation that died because the power supply went out. I considered getting one of the generic DVR players online, but liked some of the features of TiVO such as the fast forward preview patented by TiVO. I use the unit to pause, play, record from local digital antenna signals. I give this unit 10 stars. It works much better than the 3rd gen TiVO which I had in place for about eight years prior to getting the Romaio. Excellent performance. Nicer than I imagined. Extracts over the air broadcasts, more than I got with just an HD antenna. Brought in additional channels to the ones I previously gotten. Very nice abilities for recording. You can change your recording days and times, or let it automatically fetch every week the repeated schedule to capture the later showings. Very nice menu system, lots of flexability. Great price that included lifetime Broadcast TV guide scheduling. I wired up the ethernet cable between it and my modem to do the initial installation, download and setup. After that I was able to remove the hardwired ethernet cable and the Roamio OTA unit continued to communicate wirelessly with my internet and modem without a problem. Neither work!
