About this product

Product Information

Director John Dahl switches genres from film noir (THE LAST SEDUCTION, RED ROCK WEST) to military actioner with THE GREAT RAID. Following the 1942 Bataan Death March, thousands of U.S. and Filipino soldiers were imprisoned by the Japanese in a POW camp in Cabantauan in the Philippines. Brutalized, starved, and tortured, the prisoners languished in the camp for nearly three years. But in January 1945, an American battalion, with the help of Filipino guerrillas, planned a daring mission--some called it suicide--to rescue the five hundred U.S. soldiers still alive there. The film is told in glorious detail. The story is based on two books, THE GREAT RAID: RESCUING THE DOOMED GHOSTS OF BATAAN AND CORREGIDOR by William B. Breuer and GHOST SOLDIERS: THE EPIC ACCOUNT OF WORLD WAR II'S GREATEST RESCUE MISSION by Hampton Sides. In addition, several men involved in the raid served as consultants on the project. The result is a thrilling, agonizing, and unforgettable war movie like they used to make in the 1940s and 1950s, a celebration of the human spirit. THE GREAT RAID stars Benjamin Bratt as Lt. Colonel Mucci, an offbeat military man who puts his faith in young Captain Prince (James Franco) to lead the dangerous mission. Among the men imprisoned in the camp are Joseph Fiennes as the ailing Major Gibson and Marton Csokas as Captain Redding, who is always trying to escape. Connie Nielsen adds romantic tension as a war widow smuggling much-needed medicine into the camp.

The item was expensive for a used toy but it was the cheapest available so I can’t complain. It was used but in good condition so no problem there. It was as described. Shipping was a lot and I wish it was free but again that’s just how things works online. My daughter loved it and I appreciate the packaging because the item was protected from receiving any potential tears. When she saw the box she knew it was for her and asked if she could open it. She is deaf so she uses ASL. Thank you though!

There was excellent customer service; the communication was great; the doll is adorable; the package arrived quickly as well as very reasonable shipping costs. Thank you for this terrific vintage doll! A 5 Star seller for sure.

The Great Raid, a great movie

I did really like the movie for it"s historical role. I had an Uncle who was at Battaan in1942,and he survived it all. I do not know if he was at Cabantuan or not though, of if so was he there at the time of the rescue.

  • Every American should watch this movie.

Very good movie. If you don’t understand or not savvy as to how combat missions are briefed, best to Google this event first so you can better understand how the raid took place. My father was imprisoned in that camp for 18 months before he escaped and joined the guerrillas in support of the US Forces. Want to learn what earning US citizenship is all about? Google the name of the Filipino Captain who led the guerrillas protecting the US Rangers. Read about his trials and tribulations of applying for US citizenship and how long his process took as well as whether it was granted or not and when. Despite what the Japanese did (and to my father), my Dad forgave the Japanese people. The phrase “War is Hell” is true.

  • Explains the content, just not which one.

Tells a story of something often overlooked when viewing this time period in the Philippines. Doesn't grab a viewer but worth watching
