  • Great book

What a terrific book about Amwrica at the turn of the century. It covers several social aspects of the times as well as important historical events in ways that are easily understood by children (and still informative and entertaining for adults). Richly illustrated with photos from museum archives, this book truly brings history to life. A+ seller; book arrived very quickly and in great condition.

  • Save this book for an older child

The book is beautiful, but the content is such that it would be frightening to an eight-year-old child. The descriptions of the Triangle Shirtworks Fire and linchings are enough to give an adult nightmares. It is an excellent history but it should wait until the child is a teenager. I learned things from the book that I was not aware of, such as the Orphan Trains and the Children's March. It is a wonderfully researched book but should be labeled for an older age than eight years. It is beautifully illustrated as well. I was glad I had the book sent directly to me instead of to my seven-year-old granddaughter.

  • These books are fantastic!

We are collecting each of these out-of-print American Girl books. They are so well-done, interesting, and draw a fascinating portrait of each era that is age appropriate and detailed. Not a dumbed-down children’s book, and draws adults in too.
