It's alumium. It pops corn
The fact that it is aluminum has been deleted from the page. I bought this and when I realized it is aluminum, not SS, I returned it. Don't misunderstand, I had this aluminum model for years and it works well. Never had a problem but lost it in a move. I decided to get a SS model instead. After about a month's heavy use, i like my SS model, but both have their advantages. Read elsewhere to evaluate each in depth.. Initially I had problems with my SS, necessitating some modifications [none were needed with my old aluminum]. The mods are not covered - this is a review on the aluminum. So having used both which do I prefer and why? I think the aluminum is easier to use without burning the oil. I think the SS is easier to use on a gas range. My aluminum was used on a standard electric range. My SS is on my gas range. [I like cooking with gas; would not go back to elec]. My experience may apply to elec. so include it. I had to learn the proper settings: let it heat a notch below medium until my 3 "test" kernels begin to pop; turn the gas to medium and put in the rest of the kernels [gas reacts much faster than elec]. A half cup of kernels drops the popper temp way down [from almost 400F to about to the low 300F] It takes about 5 min or so for the kernels to begin popping and another 3=4 min for them to finish. I do not recommend raising the temp above medium to shorten the time. All the Internet sites tell you to never go above medium. This is true. In fact my range will smoke peanut oil if you leave the pop on medium too long. When oil smokes it begins to affect the taste and begins to blacken the inside of the popper. When the heat is kept below smoke the oil residue gradually turns a golden brown. Remove the popper from the range before the final popping. If you have more than a half dozen "Old maids" you removed it too soon. If there is even a hint of smoke, you left it on too long. The aluminum responds to heat faster than the SS, so you want to be quicker judging the final seconds of popping. Final tips: if your popper bottom begins to warp, it is caused by over heating. Cooking with peanut oil has the advantage of a high smoke point [450F]. Popcorn begins to pop about 400F and many of the popular oils smoke below 400F. Peanut oil leaves a light, hardly noticeable taste. All of the Chinese cook exclusively with peanut oil. The other advantage is that you can use less oil. The minimum is 1/2oz for a half cup kernels. one oz. will pop almost everything. The 1/2oz may leave 6 or so unpopped and extends the popping cycle a little. The oil is needed to quicken the heating of the kernels by increasing the kernel surfaces to the heat. If you decide to try popping without oil, know this;: popcorn with no oil cannot hold any salt. The slight oil residue left on the popped kernels will hold fine salt easily. CLEANING: I wipe the popper thoroughly with a dry paper towel after it cools. i don't let the popper sit dirty.

It's an oldy but goodie! The best design that emulates the large popcorn makers you see in movie theater lobbies. I ordered the all-in-one popcorn kits which come with the corn, the special oil and the flavored salt, which makes a machine full of delicious popcorn just by turning the crank. I got the model with the metal gears for longevity, because I make a lot of popcorn for special occasions, etc. The maker is very well made, and the design is the very best. The pot is easy to clean with just sudsy water and a sponge. If you want a more diet-conscious popcorn, you can use your oil of choice and leave out the salt and flavored oil. The best popcorn maker and no electricity!
The best way to make popcorn and very little effort is needed. Can't beat the flavor with Coconut Oil and Sea Salt! Easy to clean, easy to operate, and well-constructed. I've gone through several electric oil poppers that have died, but this is built to last.
