Sangean DT-400W: hot receiver & right size for daily carry
I enjoy listening to AM radio; I would recommend the Sangean DT-400W. The Pros: Sangean DT-400W has a hot / sensitivity receiver. I live in the Seattle area and in the evenings I can hear California and Canada *inside* my house. When I listen on my Tivoli Model one, the stations fade, have noticeable static or are not even discernible, where as I can easily pick it up on the Sagean. At times I will connect the Sagean into the AUX input of the Tivoli. For this reason alone I would highly recommend the radio. The size is just right to slip into my pants pocket or my rain jacket chest pocket as I go for walks. The Cons: The base is not flat, so I cannot easily stand the radio upright with the speaker facing horizontal. So I usually have the radio on it's back. This is my only real ... No internal telescopic antenna, which can be an issue for FM and WX NOAA stations. Radio does come with a plug in external wire antenna, which greatly improves reception, but it means carrying an extra item with you. I plan on making an solid/rigid antenna and having it always plugged in. Clock only displayed when the radio is turned off, this is more of an inconvenience. Their is an auto off timer. It is 90 minutes or nothing; it would have been nice if there was a selection of shorter time, like 30 minutes or so.

Nice but some issues
This is a really nice little radio. I purchased it because of the weather option it has. Only issue where I live is that the reception (both AM & FM) could be better. I seem to get a lot of static and poor reception on stations that I receive well on my truck radio. I do not have another small radio I can compare it to so have no way of knowing if the radio is the issue. Plan to carry it on my next trip into a larger city and see how it performs. Prior to finding this here on Ebay, I purchased this elsewhere. I've owned it for about a year now and had originally wanted to replace my small pocket radio and also the radio that comes on my phone. Both of which were LAME. The reception is excellent! Especially since we live in a very remote area. It comes with a little antenna that plugs into the earphone jack so you can listen to it through the speaker and/or when you plug in your earphones those then act as the antenna. What I really love about this is when you are working or moving about, it doesn't fade in and out like my other radios did which causes me to become crabby. A crabby worker is not a productive worker because then I'm constantly stopping to adjust the radio. The memory presets are very easy to set or change and ... Overall if you are looking for a really good pocket radio this is the one to buy. I researched a ton of them and have owned and discarded about a half dozen or more. This radio doesn't frustrate me. I love it. The reason I came online today is because I am going to purchase another one just in case something happens to the one I have.

After several years, the DT-400W is still my favourite radio. Sensitive on AM and weather ( picks up 7 weather service stations within 90 miles of my house- in any direction). FM separates and receives new Low- Power FM stations, between higher powered stations. Only problem, and blessing too, is that the AM antenna is at the bottom of the radio. If radio is dropped, there goes the AM antenna. The built-in speaker is great for when I am at home.
