At the end of World War II, Eric Brown had the extraordinary experience of testing no fewer than 55 captured individual German aircraft types. These ranged from such exotic creations as the prone-pilot Berlin B9 and Horten IV, the push-and-pull Dornier DO335 and the remarkable little Heinkel He 162 Volksjager, to the highly innovative combat types that were entering the inventory of the Luftwaffe shortly before the demise of Germany's Third Reich. Brown also interrogated many of the leading German wartime aviation personalities, such as Willy Messerschmitt, Ernst Heinkel, Kurt Tank and Hanna Reitsch. From this background knowledge of German aviation he has selected those he considers the most important, and presents detailed descriptions of their background and characteristics.

    Wings of the Luftwaffe

    An excellent book in my view. I find most interesting the author's thorough review and comments on the specifics of the various cockpits and the aircraft start up procedures of which I had not the faintest idea. His good humor and command of language and vocabulary also add to the readability and appeal of this book. The author's obvious knowledge of aircraft, flight,and the principles of aerodynamics shines through and though a bit daunting for a novice such as I am, they are described with excellent clarity which was a major help to this readers appreciation of the subject matter. His opinions and comparisons of the various German vs British aircraft are, in my opinion, evenhanded and unbiased and based on his significant technical expertise. My only complaint on the particular book that ...

    Test pilot's view of Luftwaffe aircraft.

    Eric Brown was a German-speaking British test pilot. During and after WWII he got the opportunity to fly and get acquainted with a lot of German aircraft. This book combines his view on these aircraft with many pictures as well as cutaway drawings showing how they went together. Recommended for all serious Luftwaffe, warbird, or airplane fans.
