I bought this machine for one purpose in mind. That is to scan 35 mm negatives. And I have lots of them. The main objectives was to have a fast and fully automated solution that can do the job at reasonable effort. This machine can do Two film strips at a time with a total of six pictures per strip. Total of 12 pictures at a time. Each scan batch takes approximately 15-20 Minutes. which was kind of slow compared to what I was expecting. The bulb worm up time is NOT zero as described. The bulb worm up at the end of each cycle in a batch. So twelve pictures, makes twelve cycles in that patch. each worm up takes 2 seconds. This scanner overall really impressive. It did exactly what it promised. Currently I am scanning my 35 mm negatives. Kind of slow. But fully automated. All you have to do is get the settings right, put the film strip in the cartridge, correctly fix the cartridge in the scanner, and let the machine do it all. To start, I spend around three hours trying to figure things out. I installed the drivers from the CD that comes with it. I played little with them, then I went for the upgrade to download from the WEB. I later uninstalled the updated version, and worked with the CD software, the old version. For some reason, the menus with the new version did not work correctly. It could be an installation fault. By all means, the software the comes with the machine are more than enough. They do all the job, and have all the options available. My next problem was to figure out the negative film direction. Once that is sorted and figured out the menus options to use, every thing was done and things started to take shape. What I did was to dedicate my laptop for this purpose while doing my other stuff on my desktop. The machine takes it's time doing the scanning. I would head back to the machine once every 20 minutes to install new strips. If the scanner was a little faster or if it could handle more pictures in a batch, I would have given it 5/5. Speed however is a big downfall and for that I gave 4/5. Otherwise every thing else is just perfect. That is the only way to get the job done. I guess with all the back log that I have, I will have to live with this job for quite some time. I hope I was helpful. Best of luck.Read full review
This scanner really does a great job. I have thousands of old slides to scan, and can do them 4 at a time and if I want, I can adjust the resolution to get lo res or VERY high res images. Also great for negatives and paper photo's. I have a very expensive Nikon scanner but the Canon is all I really need and much faster. Best 120 bucks I spent in a long time.

For my application this scanner is awesome I love the twain implementation as I use it through paperport. I am scanning color prints and 35mm slides that are old and faded. This scanners software is super for this kind of picture capture kudos to Canon for a great product at a decent price.

This is an excellent scanner, one of the few that will scan slides, negatives, and is not very expensive. The only downside is the Canon ScanGear software rarely works, so I use VueScan instead.
