The best thing about this camera is its macro lens. We use it to document samples at my lab when just a quick image is needed before putting the sample under a microscope. It is a feature that is no longer offered in digital cameras as far as I know. The other features also work well but they are duplicated in many other cameras including the newer Sony models. Attached pictures have been reduced in size in order to upload easily but they give a good idea of the zoom capabilities of this camera.

I have owned the T1, T30, T100, T300, and the TX7. Of them all the T100 takes the best pictures. The TX7 comes close, but it has less lens reach with only a 4x optical zoom. The Megapixel count means little when considering overall picture quality. The T300 has 10 megapixels compared to the T100's 8 Mpix. But the T100 has much less noise, and is better in low light. The Tx7 with it's CMOS sensor was supposed to be much better then anything released so far. But having owned one, I can honestly say the picture has the same amount of noise as the T100. Good, but not super, as advertised by Sony. Another nice feature of the T100 is the sound quality. No camera noise can be heard while taking movies. With the Tx7, the left channel picks up the anti shake circuit noise. With the T100 your audio is mono, but you can hear a pin drop in the recorded audio. No noise. Sony also simplified the menu on the tx7, and took away some useful features. (you cannot disable the steadyshot feature, you cannot choose between constant steadyshot and just using it when taking the picture, and you cannot select the level of sharpness.) With the Tx7 the sharpness is fixed and it makes the pictures too edgy. The edges look a bit artificial when you zoom in. To be fair, the tx7 adds some nice features like "on the fly" panorama shots, and multiple shutter takes that are assembled into 1 picture. By the way, this is the way the tx7 gets it's low light performance. ( By stacking images.) The problem is the end result is a bit soft. sharpness is sacrificed when the independent images are aligned on top of one another and the noise reduction is applied. I should also note that the panorama images are also soft. On the positive side,no joints can be seen, which is a nice trick. One last issue. The T100 is really durable. It can be dropped time and time again, (on a rug at least), without any breakage or misalignment of the prizm system. With The Tx7 the door to the battery compartment is not as sturdy, and I have accidentally opened the battery compartment when placing he camera in my pocket. I would not expect it to survive the same punishment that the T100 can take. Also noteworthy, the T100's battery will last much longer then the TX7's. Primarily because of the high energy demands of the 920k lcd touch screen. OK enough rambling. if you want a T100, their are a few floating around on Ebay and elsewhere. But they wont last much longer. Especially when people do some serious comparisons. Not everyone will agree with me, but keep and open mind. The latest is not always the greatest.Read full review
I love my Sony DSC-T100,it is one of the best digital cameras I own, and I have a lot of digital cameras. The 5X times zoom on this camera is great, and with Smart Zoom it can zoom almost like a super-zoom camera; just unbelievable. Landscape pictures are clear and detailed; as good as my Sony DSC-TX7, and that's good. The macro ability on this little Sony T100 is just out-of-the-park! One of the best macro cameras you will find; period. These camera still hold a high price on ebay but are worth the money if you can find one in good shape. Watch out for cameras with bad sensors; Sony does not support repairs on these older little cameras.
sony cybershot dsc-t100 8.1 Megapixel digital camera is a great product. I like how it looks very simple yet elegant. The camera is great with a 8.1 megapixel and 5 times zoom. High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 3200) allows for shooting even in low-light conditions, MPEG Movie VX Fine mode captures VGA (640 x 480) audio/video clips at high frame rate, HD output; HD slide show with music feature
I bought this camera because my son has one just like it and I was impressed with it. It is a nice camera. Small, light weight and takes good pictures. It has a super bright flash which improves the pictures. I recommend this camera to others looking for a good user friendly camera that makes nice pictures.
