    a pocket Nikon

I needed a 'grab' camera, and one that could easily be carried, possibly in a large pocket. The P7000 was the right price, and came from a photographer who had used it this way. I wanted an optical - straight through finder, and most important a hot shoe. Flash OFF camera but TTL. Modern cameras, still follow Oscar Barnack's nearly 100 years old design on the wrong path. Try taking a picture at ground level, quickly, or at 45 degrees down, left handed. Nikon sell an adapter, so you can take vertical photos? !!! (Battery pack) A major fault with older Nikons is the focussing - using theback window slows focussing but also allows you to take unsharp photos? However. A very useful addition to my travel photography kit !

  • Nikon P7000 10.39 Megapixel Digital Camera

This camera has exceptionally good image quality JPEGs at low ISO and also very good video quality. It has a 7.1x Nikkor lens that offers an impressive 28-200mm (in 35mm terms) range and lens-shift type vibration reduction, with a maximum aperture of F/2.8 at the widest angle. The P7000 features a high-resolution 3-inch 920K-dot display fixed and not vari-angle, along with an optical viewfinder covering approximatly 80% scene coverage. The camera is slow to activate some features after they were selected, sometimes taking a second or longer to respond. Processing is slow when shooting RAW photos but the speed is acceptable if you use a fast (class 6 or 10) SDHC memory card It fits perfectly in your jacket's pocket but not in your shirt or trausers' pocket.

  • Not cheap

I had bad experience with Panasonsic but good with Nikon. My wife's Panasonic was not well built and broke. We needed another camera for her and I took a chance on the P7000 as we had the small flash gun which is little use for an SLR such as my D90 where I have the Speedlight 600. My concern was that it was very expensive for what it is. Also it has many redundent functions which are confusing for a nondedicated user. It does produce good images and the Seedlight is a useful and almost necessary adjunct. There do seem to be some serious focusing and exposure problems which people notice. Why I do not know but I try to resolve. There are plenty of options which are not easy to fathom. The handbook gives the impression of a simple camera which it is not. It is more complex than my D90 and ...

  • Nikon P7000

Bought this to supplement my Nikon D5000 outfit, I wanted a smaller camera with some versatility and control to carry around. The most important factor was however a proper viewfinder, I did not want to rely on an LCD screen which is impossible to see accurately in bright sunlight. Having just come back from Spain and taken 400 shots, I can testify to the excellent lens quality, focus and exposure. My biggest gripe is however the viewfinder, apparently it only covers 80% of the image, no information in it, no crystal outline and if you use the 16x9 format, you have to use the LCD screen which defeats the whole idea of having a viewfinder. This is not a cheap camera, so I believe a bit more thought and time should have been spent in the design of this. Having said that, it is a very good ...

  • Great little camera that produces excellent sharp images.

My son at university was recommended to look at this model and a Canon as a 'Street' camera. I found him one on the Internet and treated him. Before I gave it to him I had a play and was amazed at the image quality. This one was bought as a result of those images. This is a very powerful little camera, offering many of the features of a DSLR including Raw images and excellent optics. Several images have printed at A3 happily and could be printed larger. It offers a viewfinder which was important for me, although this is the first small camera I have used that the screen is good in strong light conditions. If you are looking for a fairly small camera that fits into a large pocket with manual controls and great versatility, that gives quality results then look no further. Had I known this ...
