  • Lumix-LX3 As bright and clear as your vision!

Almost an exact replica of the Leica D-Lux 4. Very lightweight, and compact, with an incredibly bright 2.0 lens that makes a flash unit almost unnecessary in a majority of typical "snapshot" style photos! This camera does not have a lengthy zoom feature (only 24mm to 60mm), but for the individual that wants to capture a wide angle view of a lake scene, or a sunset with a truly panoramic view of the horizon, this is a great choice. This camera is also a true winner when you typically need that extra ten or more feet of depth to get everyone into the frame for the perfect group shot (a lot of image width is gained when going from the typical 35mm, or 28mm to a 20mm focal length lens). The LX3 doesn't lay flat in a pocket, as it has a depth of about 1 7/8 ", but it has very little ...

  • Fast lens, nice wide angle, sharp pics, pro style

Basically the same camera as the more expensive Leica with strong qualities including sharp lens, 24mm wide angle with f2.0 speed. Price an SLR lens that's equivalent to 24mm (4/3 or APC C of about 12-14mm) and has an F stop down to 2.0 and see what it costs. This camera provides low light shooting without a flash and with image stabilization, you can do some very nice work, handheld. Panasonic has improved their sensor noise performance and the LX3 matches up nicely against its primary competition, the Canon G10 and the Sigma DP1. The DP1 gives a cleaner image but is slow and clunky. The G10 is a great camera but bigger than the LX3 and is not as fast or as wide. Why the S model for silver? Because it is exactly the same camera as the K model for black but people pay for appearance ...

  • Great little camera!

I was looking for a compact digital camera for a photography course, when I purchased the Lumix DMC-LX3S. I had seen the connection that Panasonic and Leica had formed, and thought the Lumix would be a good choice. The compact digital market is being flooded with cameras packing megapixels, stabilization features, size, connectability, video...everyone trying to load the most options into their camera, some good and some not so good. I decided on the LX3 because I felt that the option provided were all top quality, and not merely theown in for a sales pitch. I feel the LX3 has one of the best lens in the market. The 3" color screen is great. The optional flash shoe provides the pro with flexibility. The lens will accept filters and other options. This is a solid, well built camera that can ...

  • LX3--fantastic IQ, ideal for street, low light photos..

This is a solid, well built camera with intuitive controls. The lens is a gem--at 24mm wide it is ideal for street photography, and between the image stabilization and the fast f2.0 lens it does admirably in low light situations. In fact, in most situations I set the exposure compensation to -1/3 for good highlight and shadow detail. Another feature of the fast lens is that you can begin to play with depth-of-field in your images, something not typically accomplished with non-dslr cameras. Another strength of this camera is the image processing. While it does raw, which is a boon to those who like to play in digital darkrooms, the amount of in-camera control for JPG images is astonishing and can yield impressive results. The dynamic black and white mode is just one example of this. I ...

  • A very capable compact

This is a sturdy, little camera that answers my question of, "Which compact camera would I carry if I carried one all the time?" The only nit I have is that the RAW converter should be compatible for use with Adobe PhotoShop and Lightroom. The files coming from this camera as hi-rez JPEGs are very good for I would say 95% of my photography. Having it shoot RAW is really icing for serious photographers. I do a fair amount of corporate functions/social parties and this camera is not only fun, but very capable. I do not use the strap because the camera works straight from my jacket pocket or the pocket of my small briefcase. I've read some comments about the short range of the zoom, but to me that's minor. My legs still work. One thing that was a pleasant surprise was the fast shutter ...
