This is the "go-to" device for anyone who needs to get on packet radio, particularly for EmComm. The unit can operate off of an AC adaptor, an internal 9V battery, or from an external battery (such as a 13.8V AGM SLA used in conjunction with solar panels or other charging source.) It is simple to set up, but also has a lot of advanced features that permit it to be used as a mailbox unit as well. Its interfaces are straightforward and "old-fashioned", so they can be used with virtually any computer; if USB is needed, use a 9-pin D connector RS232 to USB converter cable, but make sure it's got an FTDI chip in it, not a Prolific. It can be used with Windows, Linux and macOS, and I've successfully used it with Windows running under Parallels (virtual system software) on a Mac.

It is a Kantronics KPC-3, what else you need to know? there are only two viable AX.25 TNCs available (in production), this one and MFJ-1278B. I much prefer the KPC-3.
