During the six year run of St. Elsewhere, I missed very few episodes. Being in Cincinnati, a BIG sports city, I missed a few of my St. Elsewheres due to stupid ballgames of one ilk or another. I've been collecting St. Elsehwere tapes and DVD's ever since, no matter when or where I could find them. So far, I've only watched the first episode on the DVD and unless the first one I saw back in 1981 is later on the DVD, then the first episode is gone. I hope to see it later in the DVD. I only wish the other five COMPLETE seasons were released as well as the first, but so far only one or two from each season has been released. I'll be waiting for more! Oh, how wonderful it was to come home from work at the hospital and hit the VCR and watch my old friends, Wayne Fiscus, Victor Ehrlich, Mark Craig, Donald Westphal, Daniel Auschlander and my beloved Jack morrison! And that theme song! To this day I have several recordings of it and when I stress out, I put on that theme and all the stress just drains right out of my body. Lassie, Leave It To Beaver and St. Elsewhere were my favorites of all time. I'm waiting on another one for the second half of my life now! I just love having at least this first complete season! Thank you, thank you, thank you. For years I've been waiting for Seasons 2-6 OF THIS series to come out on DVD, and I'd eventually given up hope. I thought that the only way to get this series in all it's glory was to find it on TV and tape it myself. And then this magnificent SOB comes along with all six seasons available. In a concrete form. With DVD's that don't disintegrate when you watch them. (Which has been a problem with some other purchases. Now I can finally watch one of the true landmarks in TV the way that it was meant to be watched. The only thing that's missing is commentary. But then again, I have a feeling that's the reason the real creators never gave it an official release. They don't want to explain the last episode. Thanks to this man, one of TV history's true friends. I highly reccomend purchases from him. Just don't rush me in the line.Read full review
This is the best medical series ever made. It launched the careers of Denzel Washington, Ed Begley Jr. and David Morse. It brought together a stellar cast and wonderful guest stars. The stories are believable, the scripts often include medical "teachable moments". The thread focusing on mental illness is presented with compassion. There is humor, drama, and tragedy. My husband does not like or watch medical dramas but when he caught me watching an episode of St. Elsewhere he was drawn into the story and now he watches at least one episode a day. I recommend St. Elsewhere as the top example of good drama, in any genre.
This series was good then. Even better now. The cast was great. What can beat Denzel Washington William Daniels David Birney and the rest of the brilliant cast members. Great show to watch.
