It came with a battery but it didn't charge up. It always said "CONNECTING" on the screen, even waiting overnight for it to charge, while it had been plugged in the entire time. So I purchased a new battery, and just put it in a few minutes ago. I'll have to wait for awhile, maybe 8 hours, maybe overnight, to see if I get a dial tone. Right now it's mid-afternoon.

Good phone, long life, expandable to 12 handsets, voice messages, caller ID
I strongly recommend this phone. I had just two handsets for about three years then decided to add another two handsets, one for my basement wood shop and one for the kitchen. I got two used handsets from Ebay. I electronicly registered the handsets to my base, (very simple), and recharged the batteries. Everything works perfectly! This phone has an intercom function that allows my wife to call me while I am in the basement instead of yelling back and forth through the living room floor.I strongly recommend this phone. I had just two handsets for about three years then decided to add another two handsets, one for my basement wood shop and one for the kitchen. I got two used handsets from Ebay. Three words Convenient, Efficient and Excellent Product
We were in need of more telephones throughout our house for convenience in answering. Having a Vtech telephone in service and no problems we looked at the five hand sets that were available on the market today. Vtech kept showing up and was what we had had good service from. The CS6229 is several steps above the model we currently had and has more features than the previous model. We enjoy features such as; each hand set controls the features, clear voice, ringer volume, answer phone, speaker phone, find a hand set, an intercom, and a whole lot more, Easy to understand, setup and use. Some complain about battery charging and battery life, the best thing to do is charge the unit(s) for at least 16 hours before using and you'll have better than average battery life.We were in need of more telephones throughout our house for convenience in answering. I maintain two different residences and have had two of these VTech CS6229 units/systems in each house for many, many years. I operate seven or eight handsets from each base station. In my opinion, these VTech units are sturdy and very reliable. Occasionally a handset or charging station will malfunction and require replacement. (That's the reason I recently made this eBay purchase.) Handset battery life is two to three years; replacement batteries are readily available on-line for $3 to $5@. There is nothing I dislike about this product. Am unable to compare it to others because VTech is the only brand I've ever used. NOTE: VTech no longer manufactures the CS6229. If you're planning to add a handset to an existing system YOU WILL DEFINITELY NEED TO FOLLOW ...
