If you enjoy films of Irish life (like "The Quiet Man"), then you'll like "County Clare on many levels; Comedy, drama, romance, and music. Not exactly for young people (Rated R for raunchy language and nudity), but these attributes contribute to the realism of the film. Colm Meaney (from Star Trek) and Bernard Hill star as estranged brothers with an ongoing feud competing in an Irish Cielli music competition, each doing whatever they can to undermine the other. The lovely Anrea Corr provides the love interest in a sub-plot of two young musicians who fall in love. Very entertaining and well worth your time!
...all i can say is it is a whimsical little film that makes you THINK. Features some wonderful scenery and great humor! Colm Meaney is superb as always- even as an uptight guy. But you find out why he became uptight but...he eases himself back a bit after the family stuff that comes along. But no one in this film is too harsh its not candy coated but its not harsh at all. Its a great film that is not too light hearted. Just right for the time this story is set in. 4 stars. Great music! Great feeling from this.

This is a delightful movie emphasizing Celtic music. However, my main interest is that the DVD has both English and Spanish subtitles. I lead a Spanish instruction group where I first play a scene selection using the English subtitles and normal sound. I then go back over the selection using the Spanish subtitles (with the normal sound turned off) and pause the individual scenes so that members of the group can work on the Spanish translation. This makes for an enjoyable learning experience.
This is a story, set in 1960's Ireland, with many sub-plots and twists that uses an Irish Celli music competition to bring them all together and to their proper conclusion. The music is the real star of this film, but there are some very fine performances from Colm Meaney and Bernard Hill. It also features a young lass named Andrea Corr, whom many will recognize from the popular Irish band 'The Corrs'. From beginning to end, this film had me. Being of Irish heritage, I loved the music. The great story line and dialogue was just an added bonus for me.
Entertaining romantic comedy set in the 1960s. Interesting characters and beautiful locations. Excellent performances by the principal characters in the film.
