    Great value

This Sigma 18-250 mm is a very good lens for the money. Takes sharp images for the entire range and this is my go around lens. This is a smaller and lighter lens than the traditional Sigma 72mm filter size lens due to a better material used in the lens design. There is a lock switch to hold the zoom lens from creeping even though it only works when it is at 18mm zoom. The OS (Optical Stabilized) function works well especially at the long end of the zoom. The auto focus works best with your view finder rather than your LCD live view but then it may vary from cameras to cameras. After all this is a good bang for the bucks lens.

  • It's not an EX, but has outstanding range and clarity.

First impression is a little flimsy in the zoom. Mechanics are not smooth and precise. The base is more impressive, heavier and well built. The next thing you'll notice is the outstanding range. Take this to a concert and zoom in on the guitarist's hands, and zoom out to see the entire crowd. Then take a perfectly framed portrait of your friends. It is not especially great for low light or extreme close focusing, and I have to hold the grip when shooting straight up or it will move. If you want these things you will need to buy 4, or 5 $600 lenses and switch them constantly. The auto focus, and vibration reduction are top notch. Quick and precise, and when you put your photos, or movies on your 65" TV you'll see clear sharp images. All the money was put into the optical quality on this ...

  • The best in its class!

I have been buying Sigma lenses for nearly 30 years primarily because they offer focal lengths that Nikon does not for a more affordable price. I have never been disappointed. I periodically test the lenses against the competition at my local photo stores and consistently find the image quality better for Sigma. They are generally sharper with less CA, in my semi-pro opinion. I traded up from the 18-200 I have had for several years to this lens when I got my D5100 - a great little body by the way - for a cheap all-in-one for field use. I have been impressed so far. Even the bokeh, which is always criticized for this lens, was better than I expected. My only complaints are the bulk and the lack of fluidity in the zoom. If those two items were on par with my other Sigmas, they would have ...

  • Perfect carry lens for every occasion--

This lens takes me from 18 to 250mm with ease. Photos are sharp as a tack. This is my 2nd Sigma 18-250 because I already had one on my Nikon D5000. The current lens is on my Canon EOS 7D. Sigma makes a quality lens and I saved hundreds of dollars by not going broke and buying a Canon L series. I do not make a living selling photos, just a hobby, but this is the lens I wanted after reading many reviews and by using the one I already owned on the Nikon. It is not a lightweight lens, but my hands are big so it is easy to grip. This lens was a steal at $399.95 (used).

  • Sigma for Nikon

Although not intended for sports it performed great at a basketball game. The images were clear but not super sharp through the entire zoom range. Focused quickly and accurate. Overall, I'd not hesitate to purchase the lens if needing that zoom range. Allen Earl Photography
