About this product

Product Information

The Minolta Maxxum 28mm f/2.8 lens, a wide model for all Sony Alpha DSLR/DSLT and Minolta Maxxum SLR/DLR cameras, will allow you to enhance the performance in your photography sessions. With the Maxxum line, the heavy duty metal bodies of earlier Minolta models were abandoned in favor of lighter and less-expensive plastics. This lens uses the exact autofocus technology that Minolta purchased from Leica in the 1970s. This is a good, older-style choice of lens that was designed originally for 35mm film and works well with digital cameras. These Minolta wide-angle lenses are light and compact, making them very good accessories to keep in your gear bag when you are on the go. They have a glossy black finish, and there are textured rubber inserts around the perimeter to give you a good grip. The lenses are 2.56 inches in diameter, 1.69 inches long, and weigh a scant 6.5 ounces. The optic elements in this wide-angle lens consist of five multi-coated elements in five groups. The coatings improve light transmission and help to reduce flare and ghosting. This is a prime lens, with a focal length of 28mm on a full-frame camera and an APS-C equivalence of 42 mm. It gives you a generous angle of view of 75 degrees in full-frame format and 50 degrees in APS-C format. One of the first things you will notice when you use this Minolta model is that it focuses very quickly, even in low light. This makes it a very good lens for indoor photographs or outdoor shots where the lighting is not ideal. The autofocus action is also very quiet, which is convenient when you need to stay in the background. The length of the lens changes when it is focusing, but the 49 mm filter ring does not rotate. This means that you can use filters that need to be in a particular orientation to be effective, like polarizing filters. The focus distance window on this 28mm lens shows both feet and meters. Its minimum focus distance is just under one foot. Also in the window, you will find depth of field marks and a red dot on the f-stop scale that functions as the infrared index mark. This dot helps you find the right focal range when you are using infrared black and white film. Although this is an autofocus lens, you can focus it manually if you’d like. It is very easy to turn with just a finger and thumb, and just a quarter turn takes you from close-up to infinity. You can achieve a maximum magnification of .13x with this Minolta AF 28mm f/2.8 model. The aperture of these lenses is defined by seven straight blades. You can choose an aperture size from the minimum of f/22 to the maximum of f/2.8. The lenses produce low distortion, and you can expect sharpness in your photo from corner to corner at most of the f-stop settings. Their performance is particularly good, however, at f/5.6 and f/8. You can expect sharp photos with very good color and pleasing bokeh at these f-stops. If you find yourself outdoors with one of these lenses when the light is too bright, you can use its built-in hood to cut down on glare.

The Sony transmitter was received very quickly in a professionally-packaged box. I had an issue which might have been due to the part not working properly so I called the seller. The problem did NOT have anything to do with the part. And the person I spoke with was tremendously helpful and pleasant to me. Great people to deal with !!

Excellent performer all around. Great value .

Excellent performer. Fast AF. sharp in the center at all apertures. Corners sharp by f4.5. No color fringing, no flare even without a hood. Excellent sharpness and resolution allow this lens to be used bot as 24mm and as 28mm (with edge cropping) while still allowing excellent 16x20 inch enlargement. Lightweight and low progile - can be used ion both A-series cameras and with autofocus adapter on Sony E-series cameras, . Sharp enough to provide excellent equivalent of 36mm on APS size sony camera such as A6000, a6300, a6500. Can be left on the camera all the time.

  • Konica Minolta Maxxum AF 28 mm F/2.8 - a decent lens, not too expensive

This is a decent lens, but not among the best Minolta made. Mine was soft compared to my 35mm f/2, but then the 28 f/2.8 was originally an under $100 lens in the early 1990's, and the 35mm sold for $400, so you would expect a difference in quality. A warning about the eBay stock picture. The image is not of the Maxxum mount lens, it is the Nikon 28mm f/2.8 AF lens. The Maxxum mount lens does not have white writing the way the Nikon lens does. Just a warning for anyone relying on the image to list or buy the lens. Update: Perhaps I was too hard on this lens. Out of curiosity I bought two more for testing. One was the same as mine - a bit soft, especially at the edges, and the other, well, the other was really good. This is a lesson in sample variation and the problem with used lenses. ...

  • Very good lens for this price!

The lens is compact and light, with good picture, starting f3.5 till f16. Nice bokeh, usable minimal focus distance, and convenient angle for FF and APS-C matrix cameras. Lens for every day using. Much sharper than Minolta AF28-105 f 3.5-4.5 on F28 mm focus distance (short line). You may need a micro-adjustment of focus for SONY A-series using. Good quality for this price!

  • Excellent Prime Lens for the Money

This little lens is excellent for both indoor and outdoor photography. It's inexpensive, and with an aperture of f2.8, it's plenty for most low light situations. I use it for landscapes, group portraits, and indoor photography. It's an excellent prime lens for the money.
