Reviews
"In this editio princeps of the thirteenth-century cartulary of the French abbey of Prémontré in Picardy, Yvonne Seale and Heather Wacha maintain the rigorous standard of scholarship demanded of editorial work while profoundly enriching the genre. Matching a deep engagement with the material features, graphic signs, and textual content of the manuscript is their keen awareness of the formative impact of gender and power relations on the production of this cartulary and its reception by successive generations. In this remarkable work, the cartulary, a record of human aspirations, representational strategies, and administrative practices, unfolds as a multilayered, transtemporal site of cultural encounters." --Brigitte M. Bedos-Rezak, Professor of History, New York University "This meticulous edition of the cartulary of Prémontré is a veritable casebook for viewing the complex relationships between the founding monastery of the Premonstratensian Order and the regional aristocratic families of northern France in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The editors offer a masterclass in how to read a cartulary as a cultural artifact: its materiality, contents, organization, and ultimate embodiment of an institution's identity." --Theodore Evergates, editor of The Cartulary of Countess Blanche of Champagne

Synopsis
This volume presents the first transcription and edition of the thirteenth-century cartulary of Prmontr., The Cartulary of Prémontré offers a full critical edition, consisting of a transcription of the cartulary's 509 charters together with historical notes and apparatus. The thirteenth-century cartulary of the abbey of Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Prémontré is one of the few manuscripts to survive from this monastery. Offering a window into daily life in medieval France and to contemporary documentary practices, the cartulary of Prémontré is a rich source for the socio-economic and religious history of the Picardy and Champagne regions during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The charters contained in the cartulary illuminate how this major northern French abbey functioned as a mother house for the Premonstratensian Order, and how it interacted with people - both elite and non-elite as well as secular and ecclesiastical. It also reveals the complexities of cartulary production within a larger institutional and archival context. In an introductory essay, Heather Wacha and Yvonne Seale consider not only the history of the manuscript and of the abbey of Prémontré, but also the cartulary's materiality, its place within the broader field of cartulary studies, and what it shows us about women's roles in contemporary society. In doing so, this volume offers new connections between the field of cartulary studies and feminist studies., This volume presents the first transcription and edition of the thirteenth-century cartulary of Prémontré.

Everything arrived as described and the packaging was very secure. I appreciate the fragile stickers that were on the box as well. This seller was so great at communicating with me and the bundle deal was greatly appreciated and a great value. Shipping was also fast. I would definitely buy from this seller again. Thank you!

It came shipped earlier than expected. And was packed quite well. It wasn't in a cardboard box but one of those manilla folders- the ones with the bubble wrap inside and was taped quite well. It was exactly as described and even with the original packaging- It was well worth the value. Especially since it included sample packs of gamer supps and what looks to be a v-card permotional thingy as a free gift. I would definitely buy from this seller again.
