    One product...many uses

I started using TruOil decades ago when I built guns. Recently I started building guitars and needed a clear, non-yellowing an durable finish that could be polished glossy or left satin/matte. I naturally went back to TruOil. It performed well in most situations. Dry times can be long here in SC with high humidity during the summers but an AC solves that issue. Many light coats makes for a strong finish that is water resistant. I'd use this on any semi to porous surface you need sealed and protected. Buying it on eBay reduced the overall costs as my local suppliers are not reliable or competitive. Give it a go. If you don't like it let me know. I might buy it from ya. Cheers!

    Gun-Stock Oil

I was surprised to find out this product really wasn't an oil like I thought it would be. My mistake. It gave a decent finish, but I would not recommend using it on an expensive gun stock as the results were far from perfect. A spray can of Polyurethane would probably have been a better choice to use.

  • Excellent Stock Finishing!

The product is easy to apply with fingers, cloth or brush. Instructions are clear and accurate. Shines a bit brighter than a semi-gloss product and looks terrific! Followed a friend's recommendation and did 5 coats on newly stained wood. Read that you could apply over old finishes and it would work. Tried it on a 75th Anniversary Red Ryder BB Rifle and it worked brilliantly - made the original walnut stain finish pop! I could not be happier with this product. Next I'm going to use it on wooden pistol grips.

  • Spruce it up!

I've been using tru-oil to spruce up my shotgun stocks for several years. When the finish starts to look dull on your stock just break out the tru-oil and do it right. One word of caution - do not use your finger as described on the label. You will get nothing but streaks no matter how good you are. Use a piece of cheese cloth or sometimes I use a soft shotgun cleaning patch to rub on a very light coat. Hang the stock and let it dry for a couple of hours. If you need to clean up any wayward spots just use some 00 steel wool to lightly sand the finish and then give it another coat. Repeat as many times as you need to get that clear coat look you want. The finish is fully cured after 24 hours.

  • First time

This is the first time I have tried this stuff. I am doing a pine body guitar with it. I am not finished with it yet as I am applying multiple coats. What I like is it is very forgiving. If you apply a coat and it is not just right you can just give it 24 hrs drying time and then sand it and reapply. It can also be sprayed from a spray can. My last coats I am going to try putting it in a small jamb gun and spray it out with that. I can see that when I get done fooling around with it I am going to have a very nice Finnish and It has been fun learning how it works.
