I accidently started playing this genre of Koei by introducing myself to Dynasty Warriors 5 and Samurai Warriors 1. Normally I make a stand against playing beat-em-up games. But, I do have a side of me that enjoys the rpg delicacy in which is leveling characters up and seeing stat growth. And Samurai Warriors 2 has this. Samurai Warriors 1 and Samurai Warriors 2 actually show numbers along with the usual colored bar of stats (ie: Life, Mousou, Attack, Defense, ect) compared to their counterpart Dynasty Warriors 5. And that to me gives credibility as I relate more to numbers than just colored stat bars by themselves with no numbers next to them at all. Truth be told, a few years back I did play Samurai Warriors 1 and later Dynasty Warriors 5, but I never got into them too far to understand characters and much of anything (played a couple of characters and their respective Mousou/Story Modes)...and actually shelved them, and only recently picked up Dynasty Warriors 5 again and actully unlocked all the locked characters, got most of everyones 4th "Special Weapon", maxed stats, and most story modes finished. The reason I couldn't stand playing Samurai Warriors 1 was that your characters could be gimped in their stats if you couldn't get good rankings on missions finished. And that was not a nice thing to do to a neophyte/beginner of this type of genre. I was getting bad ranks...and thus, stats would never max out for the characters. And with that, shelfed the sucker. I found out Samurai Warriors 2 had had that issue of gimped characters fixed and decided (after many hours of Dynasty Warriors 5) that I invest into buying Samurai Warriors 2. What I like: *The unlocking of characters is always a fun part of these games. *Getting Special 4th weapons is fun (but, can be hard to obtain) (also, can be disconcerting getting 4th weapons that Koei intentonally put bad stats on ). *I like that characters have skills. What I don't like: *Getting the skills thru Learning. Learning is the ability to possibly get a skill from an officer KO. (It's a novelty in and of its own, but after having to try to learn a dozen plus skills for each character after my 6th character I was really unimpressed) (The novelty wears off and I was left with not wanting to even play the game because of this learning system) *Sugoroku was a horrible experience for me (its the mini-game most relatable to the game we call "Monopoly". I only played the darn thing because you need to to get the secret character Okuni, in which you also need to win and come in 1st place which seemed near impossible to me as spent a good 8 hours, 8 attempts were made, and I cussed like a wilderbeast having verbal 4-letter special component words strewn together while on crack/speed/meth. In other words I was vehemently mad and ludicriously enraged because all I could do is watch the computer players constantly win. There's nothing more encouraging/inviting than verbally assaulting the emptiness to which the player (in this case me) is frustruated at. I had thoughts of wanting to pay somebody to win this minigame for me. That's how bad it was to me. Rating: B+, "Learnings" got to go...Koei just needs to make skills dependent of characters advancing in their levels like most rpg's do. And make more unique skills. Also, common skills should should have rankings that vary amongst each character in the game. I think Suikoden III's skill system is rubbing off on me -JRead full review
excellent condition and game overall. This game was better than the first. It was one my wife enjoyed more than me. The graphics were good and it had more actions the characters could do. I even got my sister addicted to this game and we play it almost every day.
very goood game nice story line alot of diffrent chars to choose from and goood weapons in the most case. Not much to say other then i hope theres a 3rd one. The only real prob i had with the game was gettin Kenshin and Sakons weapons but over all great game.
Fun, addictive hack-n-slash. Its a simplistic style game but it has its moments that let you unwind by running through hundreds of enemies
I bought this game because a like beat in up games. In the new generation games Samurai Warriors 2 is one of the best!!!
