It's Gears of War, no introduction is needed. One of the most compelling/interesting video game stories I've had the privilege to experience. Great gameplay, acting, storytelling and atmosphere (with a lot of improvements). Gears has been doing what it's been doing since 2006 and hasn't failed once to disappoint. For those who haven't played a Gears of War game: Do not play this if you haven't played the first two yet as this is a story-driven game. They have a neat "Previously on Gears" feature as a way to catch up on what's going on. But that's more of a memory refresher than a complete rundown of the last two games. Trust me, you're going to want to play them before jumping into the 3rd game. It's the only way to feel apart of the story and therefore the best way to play it... the only way.Read full review

I'm a big fan of the series,so I'll do my best to provide an unbiased review. The plot was good ,but I felt that there was a little bit of disconnect with the plot during gameplay. It was easy to forget what your objective would accomplish. I like the gameplay more so I wasn't to bothered by this. I like that they brought back some of the weapons from previous titles. I mostly stick with the rifle attached with a chainsaw. It's much more fun using a chainsaw over a gun. They also did a good job of mixing in some new weapons with a good amount of variety. That have also incorporated a command system for NPCs,but I just stuck to letting them do their thing. You'll really enjoy this game if you are a fan of the series.
I bought this game because I am a huge fan of the previous installments in the series and I loved playing the second Gears of War of online. The game immediately exceeded my expectiations when I played my first online match. I love how fast and smooth it is. The cover system is just as great as it was in GoW2 and it feels more integrated. My favorite parts are the new weapons, particularly the new starting weapons, the retro lancer and the sawed-off shotgun. They add a lot of new play-styles, as does the Digger, a new power weapon that burrows underground to bypass cover and forces enemies to leave their entrenched spot or accept defeat. The only reason I give it a 4 instead of 5 is that the campaign is not on the same level that the last two were on. The first and second GoW constantly forced you to think and fight creatively, and presented many unique situations that the player had to fight their way out of. This campaign is not as well thought-out and is mostly a string of monotonous fire fights until the last two chapters. The story is also much less emotional than the second game. They didn't characterize very well and the new characters often felt pointless and stale. I still have no understanding of who Jace or Sam really are, and Dom's character does not act like her experienced the horrors that he did in the second game.Read full review

Being the biggest fan of this franchise since buying the limited edition of Gears of War 1 and enjoying every bit of that game, Gears of War 2 had been my biggest disappointment. Therefore, it had been very hard for me to be tempted enough to get this game. I don't know what had driven me to do this, maybe it had been all the flashbacks and memories of Gears of War 1 and the tidbits of great moments in Gears of War 1 fantastic multiplayer. Maybe it had been the boredom I got from all the cod shooter games I've been playing, and, dare I say it, from battlefield games also. Whatever it was, I'm glad today that I had done what I done and have not regretted a bit since. It is unexplainable how thrilling every piece of this game is. It is has been so well designed that it should have been $120 game, $60 for its campaign and the cooperative and $60 for its multiplayer and horde. No cod game has ever had a good campaign mode, even cod fans admit that, but no fan will ever admit that the multiplayer has also remained unchanged since call of duty 4. Some of my friends say that this is call of duty with a MUCH better campaign mode. I say that this is call of duty with a MUCH better campaign mode, an INFINITELY times better multiplayer, and a much better coop. So what I'm pretty much saying is that this isn't call of duty at all, it's Gears of War. Buy it. Counter-arguments to my review: This is a love or hate game. I'm a huge fan but not a hardcore one. The most hardcore fans who loved everything about Gears of War 1, will hate the dramatic changes in the machine guns. Sawed-Off shotgun is now overpowered, lancer is now so strong that it can be used the entire game without any shotgun, and the gun that every gears loved and used, the gnasher shotgun, is no longer as useful as it used to be. Sadly I admit, gears of war 3 has tried to make this game appeal to the noob fanbase and now kills take a lot less skill to achieve. I still love it anyway.Read full review
