About this product
Product Information
Hasbro's Tonka toy franchise has been popular with both children and collectors for many years. As the years have passed, the Tonka brand has been able to endure the digital transition of children's entertainment and survive. Tonka videogames have been released for both the PC and Macintosh, but Tonka Raceway is the first for the Game Boy Color.

Brought to you by developer Morning Star Multimedia, Inc. and publisher Hasbro Interactive, Tonka Raceway puts you behind the wheel of real Tonka cars and trucks and into racing action.

Choose from four different types of Tonka vehicles to drive: the Dump Truck, Racing Car, Bull Dozer or the 4x4 Off-Road. You can race against up to three other computer opponents or grab a friend and use the two-player alternating mode.

Your first step involves customizing the control of your chosen vehicle's steering and turning the Game Boy Rumble Pak on or off at the setup screen. Choosing Arcade Steering allows you to move your car using the Control Pad in relation to how you view the screen. In other words, if you want your car to move in a specific direction on the screen, that's the direction you would press on the Control Pad.

Authentic Steering means using the Control Pad to steer as if you were in the vehicle driving, where pressing right steers to the vehicle's right and left steers to the vehicle's left, not to the right or left of the screen.

After selecting your options for the Game Boy Rumble Pak and steering, you will need to choose the environment in which you will race on the Tournament Screen. You can select from the Tropical Paradise, Scorching Desert or the Winter Wonderland. Use the Control Pad to highlight your selection and the A Button to confirm it.

Before selecting your vehicle, you can personalize your game by entering a name on the Sign-In Screen. Races are played on a variety of courses, and all are governed by single elimination rules. If the current player doesn't reach the finish line within the set time limit, or fails to finish in one of the top three positions, he or she will be out of the race.

The rules of the races are very simple: avoid other cars and all obstacles, and finish as quickly as possible. Speed is essential to your success, and collisions will slow you down!

At the end of each race, you will be ranked according to how you placed: 1st, 2nd or 3rd. You will also be awarded points for how well you did (Prize), notified of how much time was left on the clock and receive extra credits (Bonus) for beating the clock. If you have accumulated enough credits (ten), you can enter the Pit Garage for an upgrade to your vehicle. Parts such as engines, tires, shocks and turbo can all be improved, and each part has three levels of quality: Standard, Improved and Champion.

Start your engines -- the race is about to begin!
