Notes
2007 digitally remastered two CD Deluxe Edition of the debut album from the Alan Parsons Project. Featuring the original 1976 mix of the album, the 1987 remix and eight previously unreleased bonus tracks! Recorded at Abbey Road in 1975 and released in 1976, the idea for the Project came from manager and writer Eric Woolfson, who saw his role as an auteur, bringing together some of the greatest talents in music to bring to life Poe's sinister, gothic tales. Enlisting the white-hot production whiz-kid Alan Parsons, fresh from his work with Wings and Pink Floyd, the duo set about making dreams reality. The album remains a singular, compelling work and can be seen as a bridge between Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. Universal.

  • Tales Of Mystery & Imagination (Deluxe Edition)

The APPs first and arguably best work, in 2 different versions. The first is the original, polished to perfection. All of APP's albums have excellent sound. The second disc is is the 1987 version when Mr. Parsons not only remastered the album, but remixed and added tasteful guitar parts sparingly, brightened the drum sound, added a feww keyboards and a spoken part by Orson Welles. Both discs also have bonus material added, demo versions, some never before music, interviews etc. Its very interesting to see what a master in his field will do with an 11 year perspective and new tools. An excellent package! The real question is, which version do I like best? Well it's tough because there are parts of the newer version where I like the additional work, better syncing of the ...

  • The project's masterpiece

When I hear this album, I feel a cold chill running through my spine. A masterpiece from the very first note to the last. Eric Woolfson is by no means a very talented songwriter, and with the input from Alan, it doubled the artistry and finesse of this recording. The 1987 version is great with new added guitar work but it will never surpass the original from 1976. If you are a true progressive rock lover, get this Deluxe Edition album. The original recording and the bonus features are a must for you fans out there and the new generation of listeners who want to hear imaginative music from the past!

  • Too LOUD!

I was disappointed in the amplitude levels pushed too high which has been the unfortunate trend for CD music for 20 years or so. I thought Alan Parsons himself would see to it that was not the case. Seems to me he had little to do with the final "pressing". "Remasters" are not always a good choice. I do quite enjoy hearing the original 1976 mix. I am only familiar with the 1987 re-mix, which I have on the 1987 CD I bought new.
