Set in Texas in the 1950s, SECONDHAND LIONS tells the touching story of Walter (Haley Joel Osment), a shy teenager sent to stay with two estranged uncles for the summer. Various rumors surround the two uncles (played by Robert Duvall and Michael Caine), mostly because the duo have only recently resurfaced into family life after 40 years spent carrying out misdeeds and illicit activities. The one fact about the men, of which Walter's mom is only too aware, is that they appear to be extremely wealthy, having stashed over one million dollars in cash at an undisclosed location. After initially balking at Walter's inherent shyness and nervous disposition, the two men soon warm to the child, and proceed to tell him some incredible tales of their adventures.Director Tim McCanlies lets SECONDHAND LIONS unfold at a leisurely pace, allowing Caine and Duvall to play off each other and slowly bring Osment's character out of his shell. As all the characters become invigorated by the stories and tall tales, a neat bond is formed between them, with some touching interplay and valuable lessons in life for Osment. This is a moving coming-of-age film that the whole family can enjoy.

Josh Lucas (of "A Beautiful Mind") gets a phone call telling that his two great-uncles have been in an accident. Young Haley Joel Osment is literally dropped off with great-uncles Michael Caine and Robert Duvall by his mother Kyra Sedgwick. The two are supposed to have a huge fortune somewhere on their farm in Texas and Sedgwick, along with several others, have been trying to find the treasure for years. Osment seems out-of-place at first and his two uncles appear to be cold-hearted. Duvall is seen sleep-walking and acts like he is sword-fighting.     This is a great movies for all ages.

    This is a great movie. It is heartwarming and equally funny and touching. Robert Duvall and Michael Caine are excellent as the hermit-like uncles with tales of past experiences. The development of a relationship between them and their grand-nephew, played by Haley Joel Osment is wonderful to watch. The flashbacks of the earlier lives, of the uncles, are seen through the nephew's eyes with all the drama, thrill and a dash of swashbuckler movies. Christian Kane, as the younger Duvall character, does exceptional stunts and sword-work, supposedly earning the scar on his lip during this movie. Kyra Sedgwick is excellent, although exasperating, as the mother who has to have a man in her life and will sacrifice her son to get one. This is a great movies for all ages.

    This is the best movie ever. I loved every minute of it and highly recommend it to anyone who want's to see a good entertaining movie. I would give it 6 stars if I could.
