    Good Quality - Good Features

Nice player, but really slow to open the tray. Remote works well and has good features. I'd buy it again, but if I could re-engineer it I'd get that blasted tray to eject quicker.

  • excellent player for those who want ALMOST maximum output.

This player (& its big brother the HD-A35) are the top of the line HD-DVD players. The format (HD-DVD) is now defunct, as of 2008, & this player is for those who want maximum visual & auditory bliss with their HD-DVD's. I happen to own the HD-A35, so i'll speak on that one. The player can upscale its resolution to 1080p/24. (This means that you're watching the quality of an actual camera capturing the actors in the movie). No compressing or quality lost at all. With the new firmware update (v4.0). The HD-A35 will allow you to use TRUE 7.1 audio without compressing anything..THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT SEPARATES THE HD-A35 FROM THE HD-A30. Everything else is identical. The A30 only goes up to 5.1 audio. So if you're going to buy an A35 & don't ...

  • Review of Toshiba HD-A30 DVD Player

The player produces a good quality HD picture, sound quality, and seems to have a good transport system. The player is also a very good upconverter player for regular definition DVD's. I purchased this player new and fully warranted. When the player functions properly, it's a good player for my 46 inch 1080p TV. One problem, though, is that the player started to not perform its functions. It would welcome me, but when I loaded a DVD, it would say goodbye and simply turn off. I had other playing problems, too. Eventually, I would get it to work. So, I unplugged the player for awhile, plugged it in again, and then it worked properly, and has for the last two times I used it. I also went on-line and downloaded the most current firmware I could find. I haven't made a ...

  • great 1080p movies, great DVD upconversion, affordable!

I bought this player because I wanted 1080P capability with the cheaper HD DVD format until the Sony Blu Ray S550 player comes out. My main reason however was to have good upcoversion of my standard definition DVD players. I have an older Oppo upconverting DVD player and the Toshiba A30 beats it hands down. My Standard DVD's look better than they ever have previously. I own a Mitsubishi WD73833 and 1080p content looks amazing on this player. To get true 1080p output you need the Toshiba A30 or the A35. The cheaper A1's, A2's and A3's only output 1080i. I upgraded the firmware to the latest version of 3.0 and I have had no issues playing movies in the "Up to 1080p/24 fps" setting. I did have to have this setting set to auto because otherwise if I set it to force 1080p/24 fps my TV wouldnt ...

  • Great intro HD DVD plyr!!!

If you were on the fence about getting a toshiba product fear not, this is the perfect intro to HD/upconverting player. With the format dead now you can get these for cheap if you want to. I am a dedicated HD DVD owner and proud of it, ok so it does take a while to load so what. Updating trouble I never needed to for any HD DVD's I own so... If you also own a receiver that can handle the HD audio formats using HDMI, try to get your hands on an A35 model. This A30 unit will NOT carry those signals to the receiver, I tried. This is why this is going on my cheaper model Toshiba LCD in the bedroom. I mangaged to program my remote to control everything and it's awesome. Get them while they last!!!
