Risky and buggy?
After using a different brand that died during the first attempt at reading an IDE drive, I tried this one. This unit did have a bit more instructions on the power up sequence warning that it may destroy things if USB was not connected first. After copying files and ejecting, the unit turned it self off and the files involved all appeared corrupted. Luckily after a re-boot the host computer was OK and the files were good. Worked like a charm. I used it to scan 3 hard drives from other computers for viruses. Flimsy construction. Doesn't seem like it would take much physical abuse so I'll keep it in it's original box.

Does what it says
I’ve tried other adapters but this one is easily the best. Though more expensive than more basic adapters, the BYEASY converter is externally powered, so you don’t have to open the computer case to use molex connectors. Reasonable directions are included. I had a pile of old drives I wanted to verify as blank and it took no time at all.
