    Premium Lens at Affordable Price

Tamron SP 45mm f/1.8 VC Prime Lens is a "premium" grade lens. It has many positive attributes that makes it premium. It has solid build quality and beautiful design. (Tamron's newer SP lenses have almost ceramic feel and look to them.) Weather sealed, distance window, full time manual focus. (Again features on pro grade lenses.) Excellent image quality that includes sharpness, contrast, and color. (Sharpness alone doesn't make it premium in my opinion. Canon L lenses have contrast and color quality that make the pictures pleasing to look at overall rather than just pixel peeping sharpness.) I also like 45mm range. Slightly wider than typical 50mm, but I like it better and make it slightly more versatile. It also has VC. (image stabilizer built in) I don't know any other 50mm fast prime ...

  • Be prepared to leave it on your camera

So, initially I had the EF 50 1.8 stm and 40 2.8 stm. Although they were both very close in focal lengths I loved both for what they were capable of. The 50 for portraits and low light because of its large aperture and the 40 for street photography as you get a nice wider field of view. Then I found this gem. Never knew it existed. It’s right in between with a large aperture for low light shooting. And to add to it Image stabilization! The photos render beautifully, bokeh is creamy and beautiful. It’s sharp wide open and weather sealed! You can’t go wrong especially for the price! You won’t be disappointed by this lens. Sure it’s not as fast as Canon’s USM but it’s no slouch either. The AF is quiet and reliable.

  • great lens

great lens for the value and price with Image Stabilization. Not very sharp wide open but prob require a little bit of adjustment on my copy. Otherwise, f2.8 and up it’s tack sharp.

  • Great lens, great price

This is my first non-canon lens, I was very skeptical for 3rd party lenses. I was searching for a 50mm Canon lens but i did not like the quality of the Canon 50mm f1.8 and the autofocus ring problmes of the Canon 50mm f1.4, and the Canon 50mm f1.2 was out of budget... So i went with the Tamron 45mm f1.8. The lens is very sharp even when is used at f1.8. For me the autofocus is a bit slow. I bought it with the TAP-in console and did some micro-adjustment. As for chromatic aberration, it has some purpl and green fringing but it can be corrected in post production easily. The VC works really good. I did a lot of reasearch before buying the lens, and i found Dustin Abbott youtube channel with a really good review.

  • Great, but with caveats.

The build quality is superb and the handling of this lens is great on my 5DM3. The lens did need some AF micro adjustment at f/1.8, however. That said, all of my fast primes have needed a slight tweak on this particular body. Images are nicely sharp at f/1.8 corner to corner with good contrast, and tack-sharp with excellent contrast at f/2.8 and above. Vibration Control seems to work well, too. The only real issue I have is the purple and green fringing on high contrast areas at wide apertures. This is easily fixed with post production software, but would definitely be noticeable otherwise.
