  • The third book in The Giver series--

This is the third book in the series of books by Lois Lowry that started with The Giver. Although all three books do not share the same characters, this third one ties the first two books (and societies) together. This book is about Mattie. He, like Kira and Jonas before him, has a special gift. He can navigate his way through the thick forest that divides people. When people in his own society decide to close the borders to keep others out, he is forced to enter the dangerous woods to carry a special message. Like the books before it, it is dark in its own way, but thought provoking nonetheless. It would be good as a stand alone book, but only truly understood by reading the others first. Start with The Giver. Good for grades six through nine.

  • Good introduction of the future in ”Amerika”

Blends beautifully with The Giver, and Gathering Blue. Opens your eye to a lot of what we will see if communism is not stopped here. Yes, there are ways to get out of it. Strange to be living in another time. Great price for a used book. I also bought Son, which is the 4th one. Government’s desire to own your children and their lives. Wake up!

  • Pulling it all together

If you have been following the Lowry books "The Giver" and "Gathering Blue", then you have to read The Messenger. It ties the stories together, as well as giving more information about these future worlds.
