First Gear 1/34 scale diecast model 1939 Chevrolet canopy Panel Van
A very unusual addition to the collection of First Gear 1/34 scale diecast model trucks is the 1939 Chevrolet Canopy Panel Van. This was an interesting light duty service and delivery truck built on the frame of a ½-ton pick-up truck similar to a panel truck but with open sides and rear, giving easy access to small packages and tools. Roll-up fabric covers closed off the open sides from the weather. The 1939 Chevrolet Canopy Panel Van was essentially a Suburban with open sides for cargo. These canopy panel light trucks were powered by the standard Chevrolet 207 cu in in-line six cylinder engine and were produced by Chevrolet from the mid-1930’s until 1955. The First Gear 1939 Chevrolet Canopy Panel Van model is surprisingly full-featured, including rolled up side curtains with cargo, ... The First Gear 1939 Chevrolet Canopy Panel Van model is surprisingly full-featured, including rolled up side curtains with cargo, a center-hinged side-opening hood showing a detailed engine, and usual First Gear high quality finish. The most common example of this First Gear model is finished in dark navy blue with cream fenders for Wix Oil Filters and was apparently issued in 1999 to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the company from 1939. One significant criticism of this First Gear model is that the side mirror and single rear taillight do not have distinct slots molded into the body, merely shallow depressions, and so these accessory items are difficult to mount properly and absolutely require a drop of super glue. The Wix version includes a very odd small oil filter in die cast metal which is set up as a tiny coin bank of questionable utility.
