    Thank God for Japaneese engineers & their reasearch & development.

    i have had other brands that chewed my tapes, quit working, and shut off before the end of the tape. I sent two back to the distributor, they sent me two more I haven't opened yet. I now have two of these Sony's. They are great they open quick & record clear & platy very loud! good for my hearing impairment.

    Recording problems

    I bought two of these units. Both were clean and work with out problems in the play-back mode. However, I use these units to record and erase as much as I do for playback. I use a plug-in mic for superior recording results and effective tape erasing. I am having problems with both units in these recording/erase modes while using the plug-in mic. I have two other units (purchased new 14 years ago) identical to the ones I purchased and they are still working which is the reason I chose the same model again. If playback is the main function needed, then I can recommend these units without qualifications. I appreciate that the units were sent immediately upon order and arrived the date promised. Nice job.     Overall, good product, decent price, decent quality. No significant complaints.

    Product works reasonably well. As a Sony product, Play back Sound quality is pretty good. Tape mechanism fast forward, rewind, auto shutoff all good. It is fairly priced as I bought it for the posted price. Design has a sliding volume control rather than a rotary style. Sliders tend to be a bit cumbersome/less precise and tend to get scratchy over time, but so far ok. Nit Picking The in-door plastic tangs that hold the cassette on insertion to play/record are broken. A bit clumsy, but workable. These products tend to come in a package with an outside power supply. This item did not have that with it.

    Compact and light...everything you could expect in a small package.

    The sound was ok, but the small speaker did not deliver the same sound as the larger Sony TCM 818. Still very usable for my cassettes to exercise to. The controls are very crisp and it has a convenient carrying handle that you can pull out next to the controls. The control tabs are big enough to operate with no issues.

    Be alert and sceptical about product descriptions.

    Player malfunctioned right away. Spits out the tape from a cassette when you attempt to play it. Sony markets good products. However, this one was used and probably did not operate properly because of the previous usage.
