About this product

Product Information

You can add a piece of American history to your coin collection with the 1896-O silver Barber quarter. This coin is 90 percent silver with a weight of .1808 ounces and has an "O" that represents the United States Mint at New Orleans. The mintmark is on the reverse side under the eagle. In 1896, the mintage, which is also known as the total number of silver Barber quarters made that year at the New Orleans mint was 1,484,000. This quarter dollar features an obverse side with a right facing portrait-style Liberty head with "In God We Trust" at the top and the year on the bottom. There are six stars on the left side and seven stars on the right side that represent the 13 original American Colonies. Around the head of Liberty is a laurel wreath that ties above the sixth star. On the reverse side of the Barber quarter is an eagle spreading its wings with a coat of arms on the chest, "United States of America" inscribed above the eagle, the denomination engraved below and an olive branch in one claw and a bunch of arrows in the other one. The coin has 13 stars grouped together above the eagle’s head and in its beak, is a banner that reads, "E Pluribus Unum," a Latin phrase that means "Out of Many, One." The Barber quarter part of the Barber coin series, and is one of three small silver coins designed at the end of the 19th century. They were minted from 1892 to 1926 in 74 different circulation strike issues at the U.S. Mints in Denver, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and San Francisco, for a total of 264,670,792 Barber coins. While the 1896-O had a low mintage, there are three lower years during this minting period, the 1896-S, the 1901-S, and the 1913-S. These rare coins all came from the U.S. Mint in San Francisco. Certified mint state coins have a grade range of 60-70. Only coins in perfect condition can achieve a rare score of 70. Even if the Barber quarter never went into circulation, a single scratch can lower the score. The condition is just one part of the decision when placing value on any past currency. Most coins, including quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies, and dollars made before 1965 can be worth more because they were at least 90 percent silver. Other rare forms of currency to add to your coin collection can include gold coins and silver dollars.

Excellent! Very nice banknote-affordable price. EXPERT packing. FAST shipping. Great communication. This seller is HONEST. I always check Feedback. One buyer was upset and the seller admitted they did make a mistake and apologized. In my 25 years on ebay, I only remember one other seller that had the same integrity and guts to do that. Much respect.
