This is a great drive & quiet
This was purchased as an expander for my Tivo, I plugged it in and it's been working just fine, the little white light on the front is barely noticeable so it don't annoy you when it's on, the actual hard drive is a "smart" drive so it does not have to run at full speed when not in use so that saves a little on power consumption and keeps it cooler than a standard drive. I would certainly recommend this for using as a backup on your computer or to expand your recording space on a DVR, very reliable!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Don't buy this product to work with the TiVo Edge Antenna Product!
I hope this isn't a confusing review. The WD My Book AV 1TB may be a great product but it doesn't work with the TiVo Edge Over-The-Air (OTA) Antenna like TiVo technical support said it would. In fact the two USB 3.0 ports on the back of the TiVo Edge are non-functional. So this is more of a review of the TiVo Edge product rather than the WD My Book Drive. The TiVo Box (the two tuner model) is a piece of junk so don't buy this WD Drive for external storage because it will not work!! To be clear, this isn't a short coming of the drive but of the TiVo Box. Because of the cost and the reliability issues I'd advise against buying "anything" from TiVo. To add icing on this cake, TiVos business practices are questionable. THREE technical support reps told me this TiVo model would support external storage which it doesn't. Difficult to find
It is a good product and it was sold at a fair price considering the fact that it is no longer available from the manufacturer. It is difficult to find this product new so was happy to get it. I am disappointed that this item was listed as being an option at a much lower price on the TiVo web site to expand the TiVo Bolt system. However, when trying to buy it through TiVo or Western Digital, I found that the twist on a bait-and-switch was going on. When you run out of DVR storage, this is a great solution
