This early 60's style SG Special has the vibe and sound heard on countless classic rock recordings. The comfortable, slim taper mahogany neck and bound rosewood fingerboard is well known for fast, effortless playing.
I've always loved the look and feel of a Gibson SG since I first saw one in a catalog and then at Don Wehr's Music City in San Francisco's North Beach store back when I was a wee teen in the early '70s but couldn't afford to buy one. Fast forward 50+ years later, I own three, a Gibson SG Standard in Vintage Cherry, a Gibson SG '61 Reissue in Vintage Cherry, and this latest addition in Sparkling Burgundy with P90s pickups.
I love all my Gibson SGs. I particularly enjoy playing the SGs as they are light and highly maneuverable. The fretboard and neck feel so natural. And the tone. Yes, the tone! I recently gave my Batwing Standard to my son as a birthday gift so I replaced it with this Burgundy with the P90s as I've always wanted a P90 player. I love the sound of Humbuckers, but the P90s add a bit of spicy salsa to the sound. Even though they're single coil pickups, their sound is different than the Strats that I own. To me they have that certain sweet spot in tone that the single coil Strats are lacking.
This particular Burgundy SG that I bought through eBay is in mint condition and is a beauty. Although sold as preowned, it looks brand new. So much so that I'd hesitate to play it. But all great guitar begs to be played. Hence I will play it with passion and will treat it with TLC all the while.
So plug her in and crank her up! And enjoy.
