"Did you read Beryl Markham's book, "West with the Night"? I knew her fairly well in Africa and never would have suspected that she could and would put pen to paper except to write in her flyer's log book. As it is, she has written so well, and marvelously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer. I felt that I was simply a carpenter with words, picking up whatever was furnished on the job and nailing them together and sometimes making an okay pig pen. But [she] can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves writers. The only parts of it that I know about personally, on account of having been there at the time and heard the other people's stories, are absolutely true . . . I wish you would get it and read it because it is really a bloody wonderful book."--Ernest Hemingway, "Did you read Beryl Markham's book, West with the Night ? Synopsis
While many books want to teach you how to "do" church, Mark Driscoll and Gerry Breshears offer a book on what the church is. In Vintage Church they present twelve confessional, experiential, and missional aspects of a local church with an emphasis on balancing the eternal truths of Scripture with timely, relevant methods. Now church leaders can explore this material together in small groups with the Vintage Church Team Study Pack. This pack includes everything leadership teams need to facilitate learning and discussion of the Vintage Church concepts: five copies of Vintage Church, five copies of the all-new Vintage Church Study Guide, and a DVD with new fifteen-minute teaching clips by Mark Driscoll., "West with the Night" is the story of Beryl Markham--aviator, racehorse trainer, beauty--and her life in the Kenya of the 1920s and '30s., West with the Night is the story of Beryl Markham--aviator, racehorse trainer, beauty--and her life in the Kenya of the 1920s and '30s.

Interesting, colorful, true story of growing up in Africa

Beryl Markham (née Clutterbuck; 26 October 1902 – 3 August 1986) was an English-born Kenyan aviatrix (one of the first bush pilots), adventurer, racehorse trainer and author. She was the first person to fly solo, non-stop across the Atlantic from Britain to North America. She wrote about her adventures in her memoir, West with the Night. This is her story, well written, interesting, recommended by the Wall Street Journal literary editor.

  • After reading “West With The Night,” Beryl Markkum became my second favorite author, behind Mark Twain. Originally published in 1943. Fascinating !

It’s an absolutely beautifully written, true, and incredible story about a woman raised on her father’s horse ranch in Africa; she was raised with the native Massi warriors.

  • Walk back in time and return refreshed!

Amazing read! When you see the back cover and who is promoting her (Ernest Hemmingway) you think, why have I never heard of her. By the end of the book you will feel blessed to have found the book and ventured upon the journey as well. Enjoy!

  • stellar writing of a colorful tale...

It's not just the incredible story that should be a thriller novel, but it actually is her real story. It's the eloquent and ample language that challenges the mind and gives color in 4 dimensions. If nothing else, it is to be read as an example of the ultimate in literacy...

  • Amazing stories of a an amazing life

Beryl Markham is a master storyteller. This biographical book is a treasure trove of stores of her life in Africa. Hemingway thought of her highly. It's a book you cannot put down once you start it.
