    Scout About

Compared to leupold LTO tracker the Flir scout is good because it doesn’t light up your face like the leupold which you have to hold at arms length which the light lights up your face. I use a paper towel cardboard roll so the back shine is smaller. The Flir is easier to see with older eyes but the leupold has a slightly better details which isn’t useful with a small site picture. I would like leupold to make theirs fit right up to your eye. With both you need to go thru all the contrast selections to get the best contrast to see your heat image.

    A Fair Value...

I'm 50/50 about this item. I understand it does not have zoom, therefore it really shortens the effective use area. I'm not sure if I could recommend it, as long as the buyer knows what they're getting and what to expect. It's a fair value overall, not bad, but not great. Quality of the product itself is of high nature.

  • My review of the FLIR Scout Thermal Imaging Monocular

This is my preliminary review of a FLIR Scout thermal imaging Monocular. I gave this product a 5 Star rating based on my limited testing and use since my purchase. The unit is compact and easy to use. This unit has many nice features and the menu is easily to use to navigate through the features. I also like the fact that you can record still images and videos. The images can be readily downloaded to a PC using the supplied USB cable. The color pallets offered should should allow everyone to choose a preference for their own individual application. Unit starts right up in about 5 seconds.Images are then optimized once the sensor completes its first calibration automatically once the unit has been in operation for several minutes based on background IR levels. Only drawbacks thus far is that I was hoping that optical resolution would be better. There is also no magnification offered by the monocular. The adjustment for the diopter is an essential great feature to fine tune the lens to accommodate each persons individual eyesight for a clear sight picture. Not sure how long the batteries will last during usage but if it comes close to the 5 hour run time they say it will be great. Charging via the USB cable seems to take a few hours but I feel a slow charge should be kinder to the internal battery. Once the battery has reached the end of its usable life it must go back to the manufacturer for a replacement. Don't know how much that will cost along with a diagnostic check and tuneup if needed. I have been unable to check or perform any upgrades to the installed software as yet. Planning to reach out to the manufacturer to determine if this can be accomplished online or will also require a factory performed service. All in all I'm very pleased with the product and would highly recommend it. I have worked with FLIR in the past professionally and their reputation for quality and service is unsurpassed. It is a good value for the money but do not expect to get the performance and range of a higher end unit at this entry level.

  • very cool device at a good price.

very cool. I always wanted one but they were always to expensive, not anymore. beyond just being cool it is useful. I was able to track a leak back to an HVAC unit under 20 lb rubber roof cover. As well as figure out where I was loosing heat from in my house. It does have its limitations a couple of leaves between you and what your looking at can obscure it.

  • FLIR Perfection

This little product is a great piece of technology! It is finally a way to get into thermal imaging at an"almost" affordable price. Without the wider angle view and larger opticals of pricier units it is still practical enough for security and hunting. It was between this and the Leupold LTO Tracker which was good but with my old eyes had to be held too far from my face plus being able to recoed images makes the FLIR the best!

  • excellent product for the price paid

I used during my last weekend hog hunting. The one hundred yards limitation for this monucular is more than enough for my 60 to 90 yards shoot distance. Hogs are easily detected using the black hot color, very good definition. It is really good for the 600 hundred dollars price. cheers.

  • Good product at this price point

I was looking for a decent night vision device at a reasonable price when I came across this. After reading the review and recognizing I wouldn't find quality night vision for the same price, I decided to try it. We have a lot of nocturnal visitors to our and the adjoining properties from deer to coyotes to bobcats (and the occasional 2-legged varmint). The thermal does a fair job of discriminating temps but will cause some consternation with rocks/wooden fence posts vs animals. I've had a lot of experience with thermal cameras from this to early, $25,000 models. I'd say this is much like the Gen 1 TIC's but I like the color gradient and video out features. It's worth the price.

  • Lightweight with great features

I wanted a device to be able to monitor my chickens at night if they went ballistic. I can tell in the dark if there is a varmint after them now. Fantastic quality and great price

  • I love my TK don't know how I lived with out it.

There's nothing out there for the price that will compare to the quality of the TK. Exceeds all the reviews I've read (@ 50yd or less I can tell if it's a buck) will spot a rabbit @ 100yd and no problem seeing deer across a 200yd field in the brush. It gives me piece of mind in total darkness. I'am totally satisfied with my TK.

  • Scout tk by flir

A pleasant surprise. A relatively robust package. Good fit and finish. The diopter doesn't give as much Focus relief as it could but that's the only criticism I have. It is intuitive use and the instructions come up on the screen to boot. I recommend them.
