The Seagate Constellation ES.3 1TB ST1000NM0033 hard disk drive (HDD) is an internal 3.5-inch, Searial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) hard drive from Seagate that is optimized for bulk-data applications and, thus, is geared for the enterprise. Powered by Seagate’s sixth-generation drive technology with Statistical Analysis System (SAS) and SATA interfaces, the Seagate Constellation ES.3 hard drive boasts enterprise-class performance and 24/7 reliability. The Seagate Constellation ES.3 uses a SATA 6 GB/sec interface and has a 128mb cache, allowing for a maximum sustained data transfer rate of up to 175 megabytes per second (MB/s). Couple that with a spindle speed of 7200rpm and best-in-class rotational vibration tolerance and you get a Seagate hard drive that is capable of consistently fast read-write operations and an average latency of 4.16 milliseconds, much like a Solid State Drive (SSD). Enhanced error correction, super parity, and end-to-end SAS-based data integrity allows for accurate data storage. This hard drive uses Seagate’s proprietary PowerChoice Technology, which is based on existing power management standards, meaning that, again like an SSD, it significantly improves power and cooling efficiencies. This is a Seagate hard drive that consumes much less power than its predecessors. A multi-drive firmware ensures the hard drive’s round-the-clock system availability. Aside from the 1TB capacity in this particular Seagate Constellation ES.3 ST1000NM0033 model, this Seagate HDD is also available in 2, 3, and 4 TB configurations, made possible by the drive’s large-capacity form factor. This internal Seagate HDD also features a self-encrypting drive using AES-256 encryption with FIPS 140-2 validation and Seagate Instant Secure Erase, which allows secure protection of data at rest, potentially lowering your Information Technology staffing costs. If you need high-capacity Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) storage for your servers, this is the device to go to. It is ideal for use in external storage arrays such as those common in storage area networks, network-attached storage, and drive-attached storage. Cloud bulk data storage is another area that would be suitable for this hard drive, as is enterprise backup and restore using Disk to Disk (D2D) and virtual tape. It can also be useful in centralized survelliance of your hard drives to ensure that they are up to par and will not fail without adequate warning. Extensive performance testing on the product by the manufacturer shows that the Seagate Constellation ES.3 ST1000NM0033 has an estimated mean time between failures of 1.4 million hours, at an estimated 8760 power-on hours per year.
