Ahhh, this is a fantastic prospect for a camera, I mean I have watched rookies practice with it and its just great, the best part I think is the whole way it works. let me explain the process, ahh you hold the thing up to ypur eye and point it towards the players and whatever you see, it captures on this little plastic thingy that holds iron oxide tape, its really something to see and then latter after you go home you hook it up to a tv set and watch the action again, its really fantastic the way it works, I had one of these back when I was in Oakland, only it used film but its the same principal, I coined the term, "Point and Shoot", and it just caught on and now everybody uses the term. When I'm on the bus I use this camera to shoot out the window, its got a lot of things I like, the lens cap really does protect the lens and the carrying strap is what I personally use to carry it. The case is very nice, I showed one of the assistants how it worked, it has a zipper that slides open and the camera is safely tucked away inside, I even dropped it one time and it survived ok. I sho photos of my Thanksgiving 4 legged turkey, I like to show the guys in the control truck the video, they never get home for Thanksgiving dinner. either.Theres a button that says eject and it does exactly what it says, it ejects the tape so when your done shooting the turkey you can put the tape away in the plastic cases. These cases were designed to store the video tapes safely and they do work really good, as a novelty years ago, I started writing titles on the tapes so I could find the scenes I was looking for, it seemed to have caught on, everybody does it now. I think the whole west coast digital thing is vastly overrated, back in Oakland the old analog served our purposes and it actually captured any thing we wanted to capture. The whole game is now executed so much faster that some people think that digital is the only game in town but I think just the opposite, there are not many players, except for a few, who can think as fast and react as fast as digital. I tell you, i am the old draw it on the chalkboard type, and then when I started writing on the monitor, well now everybody does it, I guess thats what they call "doing it first," or something like that. The night vision thing is great to, people use it for night practice, you know when you practice your plays at night and then its handy to when the bulb burns out in the fridge, in the middle of the night you can use the thing as a pair of night vision goggle, I suppose thaT WILL CATCH ON AS WELL. The battery charger is the best part, its hard to explain the exact process but once its pluged in, the camera batter is placed in this little craddle and then if you wait a while. the battery is like new, save having to keep buying new batteries, I THINK IT'S VERY CLEVER SONY CAME UP WITH THE IDEA. I like innovator types. like me, who can do that kind of thing, be innovative, you know, in an original way at least, thats the important part, theres a whole lot of people out there that are not innovators but if you can spot just a few then you Have TO JUST RUN WITH THEM. I used this thing for a year just putting my eye up to this thing, they call the eyepiece and then I pushed a button and a little color tv poked out and so now I watch everything on this little TV set. Hope you enjoy the camera, J. Madden,Read full review
This camera is very simple to use. It is also visually appealing. Our last camera broke because the tape eject button could be pressed too easily and the tape deck eventually broke. This design is much more efficient. We found out not long after we bought it and after using it for such a short time, that it had problems that is common to this particular kind of camera that made it unusable. Luckily it was new enough to be covered by the manufacture's warranty and it was fixed free of charge. It was however an inconvenience being without our new camera so soon after having a new baby, the exact reason we bought it.
i have two of these and bought a third for parts.excellant easy to use video camera all way around.easy to transfer your video's to vhs and dvds.different settings let you record in all sorts of special effects.i have had several video cameras, but this is my favorite of them all.
Let me start by saying how much I love my new camera, It's great I had been looking for quite awhile for a 8mm camera so I could play Old family tapes from when the kids were growing up.Nobody really sells them anymore and if they do they are very expensive. I even looked into renting one or renting a machine that plays the tapes but again it was way to much. I then joined E-bay and did my homework and decided which one I wanted and it didn't take very long for me to find it at a price I could afford. It works GREAT,It has brought our family so much joy in just the week that we have had it.
I like that it has night vision so you can record at night. It also has a light attached to it incase you don't want to use the night vision.I didn't like that it's not waterproof.Would of loved that, since in the summer we go a lot to waterparks. I decided to buy it because I wanted to record my family for memories. Some stuff only happens once and when you have a camera it can happen over and over again.
Bought this to use with an Elgato Video Converter so I could digitize old family tapes. This works perfectly for both HI-8 and 8mm formats, which can't be played in a standard VHS player, so I was able to save these forever before the quality deteriorated much more.

The Sony Handycam is one of the best cameras that I've ever owned! It's very compact compared to older models and the quality of the recording is very good, but not as good as digital or even HD of course. The only thing that I wish that this camera had is USB connectivity. Other than that, it's a great little camcorder.
