Fair Price for the best upgrade I ever had
I bought this desktop to replace my old Asus M11BB , It is the best upgrade that I ever had , 6 core processor is amazing with with 8 GB of memory , I was thinking to upgrade memory then I changed my mind because I realized that I don't have to since the machine is running fast. I do multi task in this machine with no problems or lagging or freezing at all , it is very reliable for me , I still haven't tested my games on it (I did not buy it for games) . It has a mechanical drive but with the 16 optane memory makes it almost like SSD fast. I was also thinking to replace the hard drive when I bought it but after testing this desktop for 2 weeks , I'm extremely satisfied. Its fast quite , kind of mid or small form factor so it does not take so much space and also upgradable , It even ... Good performance after difficult file transfer.
It is about what I expected: increased speed over my 10 year old laptop. So far it has been plenty fast for my needs (mostly browsing and start up and shutdown). The transfer of files from the old laptop was a pain. Used the provided free Laplink software but it took 4 tries before a successful transfer completed. Not sure why Laplink was so problematic. Perhaps because I had a D: partition on the old pc. Didn't succeed until we created a D: partition on the HP. CSRs were nice but not very well informed. During the 3 unsuccessful attempts estimated transfer times were in the 25 hour range. The successful one took about 8 hours, 135gb over an ethernet cable.It is about what I expected: increased speed over my 10 year old laptop. It works well, even if the DVD drive seems cheaply made
It was easy to setup and get all the software loaded. I had some issues with the DVD Rom drive. It would work and then not work. We called HP tech support and they got it working. But it still worked sometimes and then not. The good news is once we loaded a couple of programs from the CD, my friend won't be needing it after that. The DVD Rom drive is a laptop type of drive so seems very cheaply made for a desktop. But this is the industry way I have noticed. Desktops are pretty much laptop parts put into a desktop. My friend that I purchased this computer for is very happy with the computer. So that's why I gave it 5 stars.It was easy to setup and get all the software loaded. A+ for HP i5-8400 Optane Assisted Desktop
Very fast and sleek professional looking computer with a small footprint that has all the features one would expect from a mid-grade yet inexpensive, Intel 8th generation desktop with 16GB of Optane memory. Make a full image backup as soon as you complete your setup and everything will be ok. This is in case the optane has a problem caused by a sudden loss in power (i.e. assuming you have no battery backup) and all should be well. Otherwise, you may be looking at sending the unit back to HP since the OS is often loaded into the Optane. However. this seems to be true of all computers with Optane-assisted flash memory.
